CB Dollaway 470x260The UFC returned to Germany on Saturday for UFC Fight Night 41: Munoz vs. Mousasi at the O2 World in Berlin.

As is the norm, UFC officials handed out four $50,000 bonuses following the fights, but breaking with recent tradition, they awarded four Performance of the Night awards instead of the usual Fight of the Night award and two Performance of the Night honors.

Not surprisingly, UFC Berlin main eventer Gegard Mousasi led the way. He dominated Mark Munoz for the first few minutes of their fight before ending it inside of the opening round with a rear naked choke.

And not to be outdone by the headlining bout, co-main event winner CB Dollaway also secured a Performance of the Night bonus with his three-round unanimous decision victory over Francis Carmont.

Rounding out the awards were two Swedish victors. Niklas Backstrom, who was a late replacement for Thiago Tavares, submitted Tom Niinimaki, and Magnus Cedenblad forced Krzysztof Jotko to tap out.

Does anyone else feel like these post-fight awards are becoming increasingly meaningless? I mean they are obviously important to the guys that receive them but its no longer clear to me what exactly the criteria is

    • Maddawgmar

That’s why they never should have switched it from FOTN, Sub and KO of the night.

they still pretty much do that, just makes it so an exhaustion sub doesn’t get the money over a ko that wasn’t the top of the night.

I kinda see what you mean man. But look at it like this. If there are two amazing fights on a card that end in decisions and you can only give out one fight of FOTN award, thats not really fair. With the current system you can award a fighter for winning a great fight even it they don’t win by KO or Sub. That makes sense to me. If they kept the old system then sure the UFC could save money if there are no finishes but now you can have a barn burner and or dominate and still get a bonus even if you don’t finish.

I dont disagree with that idea but I dont see it applied that way. Dolloway’s fight wasn’t amazing so why did he get an award here? And last couple of events fighters have been getting FOTN AND Performance bonuses. Spread the wealth.

i’m guessing because they got the crowd going with their antics. plus it was a quick turnaround against someone i’m sure dana hated seeing smother potential contenders

Yes. Some of the awards appear to have been granted to Dana’s little boys.

It’s like a bonus paid to keep them happy.

Dollaway should be on 5 fight win streak, he got robbed against Boetsch. Hope they give him a true top 10 fighter next (Carmont had no business in the top 10), someone like Tim Kennedy would make for a fun fight.
