A devastating kick to the head began the ending sequence of the fight, giving Cruickshank the TKO win at 3:21 of the opening round.
“I know I belong here,” Cruickshank said, adding, “but I feel like I just proved that I belong here.”
Cruickshank displayed the spinning techniques that he’s become known for early in the match. Koch defended well, avoiding major blows for a majority of the first round.
Cruickshank than came forward with a right-head kick, followed by a one-two punch combination, then landed a left-head kick that floored Koch. On the ground, Cruickshank threw a sequence of strikes to the head before the referee stepped in to put a stop the contest.
With the win at UFC Fight Night 40, Cruickshank improves his overall MMA record to 15-4.
