Round 1: Tome scores a couple early takedowns, but Ortiz is quickly back to his feet both times. Tome presses him on the fence and drives some knees to the legs, scores another takedown, but they pop right back up along the fence again. Ortiz turns the tables and presses Tome to the fence, but lands a knee to the groin, causing a stop in the action. Tome lands a couple leg kicks, shoots, but Ortiz clinches up, presses Tome to the fence and lands some knees. They wrestle to the mat, Ortiz taking Tome’s back. They scramble and return to their feet, Ortiz landing a solid knee as they stand. Ortiz gets a takedown with under a minute left in the round, but Tome catches him in an arm-in guillotine. Round 2: Tome opens with some strong kicks, but Ortiz answers with a big shot of his own. Tome keeps pressing forward, swinging that big overhand right, which misses, but he follows with a straight right that lands. Ortiz starts firing back, but lands an inside leg kick to the groin, again causing a pause in the action. Ortiz gets warned that another low blow, incidental or not, will cost him a point. They start back up and Tome immediately lands a couple legs kicks. Ortiz shoots, but Tome stuffs the attempt, they clinch and trade knees before separating. Ortiz lands a straight right, moves in and takes Tome to the mat, and immediately begins working from side control. Tome, however, slips out and stands. They trade a couple punches, but Tome catches Ortiz in another arm-in guillotine as he shoots in. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Ortiz.
Round 3: Tome comes out slinging the overhand right again, but Ortiz ties him up with double-underhooks, pressing Tome to the fence. They exchange knees and then Ortiz tosses Tome to the mat, again landing in side control. Ortiz starts ground and pounding as Tome regains his guard. Ortiz passes and moves to mount. Tome is twisting and turning, but Ortiz remains on top, dropping punches and elbows to Tome’s face and head. We’re midway through the round and Ortiz is dominating. Tome tries to roll, but Ortiz lands in side control and continues his ground and pound attack. Tome turns, but Ortiz takes back control, Tome turtles up, and Ortiz unloads with hammerfists until the referee stops the fight. It appeared several of the punches were to the back of the head, but the referee didn’t see it that way and awarded Ortiz the stoppage.
