Round 1: Hamill attacks early with a punch-leg kick combination and then scores a takedown, but Silva is quickly back to his feet. Silva lands a leg kick, but Hamill fires back with punches. Silva lands a solid right hook and knee to the body. He keeps moving forward with punches, rocking Hamill a bit and backing him up. Silva starts chopping Hamill’s lead leg and landing some body shots. Hamill is trying to close the distance, but looking more and more out of his element on the feet as Silva keeps chopping away at his lead leg. Hamill lands a couple punches, but they’re not coming frequently enough, when Silva is outstriking his about three or four to one. Silva, however, who came into the fight a couple pounds overweight and was fined 25-percent of his show money for failing to hit the mark, is starting to breathe heavily, while Hamill is still moving well. Round 2: Hamill immediately moves forward, landing some punches and kicking Silva’s leg out from under him. Silva gets up and starts firing back, landing some heavy punches, starting to take the striking momentum back from Hamill’s quick start in the round. Hamill finally punches and sets up the takedown, and gets it, but Silva is immediately back on his feet, swinging away. Hamill scores with a solid body shot, and starts employing his jab more. Silva, meanwhile, keeps after the lead leg with low kicks. Hamill scores another punch combination, seemingly getting some momentum going in his striking game in this round, while Silva’s output has slowed considerably and gotten much more sloppy. Silva scores a one-two combination that rocks Hamill. He keeps after him, lands a couple more punches that send Hamill to the mat, but Hamill slips out of Silva’s grasp and returns to his feet. Silva, however, looks too tired to take full advantage of Hamill’s weakened condition. Silva steps in and lands a couple short body shots, but is breathing very heavily, his mouth puffing up like a blowfish. Hamill shoots and presses Silva to the fence, eventually securing the takedown and taking Silva’s back. MMAWeekly.com scores a close round two 10-9 for Silva.
Round 3: They trade a few punches before Hamill shoots, but doesn’t score the takedown and falls to all fours. Silva latches onto Hamill’s back, but that doesn’t last long and they return to their feet. Silva continues kicking Hamill’s lead leg and Hamill is now favoring the leg a bit. Both men look extremely tired now, Hamill shooting half-heartedly. Hamill sticks his hand out to keep Silva away and ends up poking him in the eye, forcing a break in the action. The doctor checks Silva’s eye, but he indicates he’s good to go and they restart in the center of the Octagon. Silva immediately goes back to attacking the lead leg and sticking his jab in Hamill’s face. Hamill tries to shoot, but again has little gas left in the tank and looks more like he’s resting by hanging on Silva than he is shooting a takedown. Silva is fairing little better, but is still landing with his punches, while Hamill struggles to even keep his hands up. Hamill shoots again, but Silva easily defends. Silva hits hamill with a knee, but can’t follow up on the visibly hurt fighter. Silva land another knee to the body and a leg kick to the lead leg, but doesn’t have the gas to finish, as both men are just trying to make it to the final horn, which they do, each man hanging by a thread.
