Court McGee vs. Robert Whittaker

Round 1: McGee immediately presses the action, putting his fists in Whittaker’s face, driving him across the Octagon. Whittaker is answering, but McGee continues pressing the action, landing a stiff jab and mixing in the right cross and kicks to the body. Even when McGee isn’t engaging, he’s a ball of movement, not giving Whittaker and easy target. He shoots on Whittaker, who stuffs the takedown and counters with a left hook that catches McGee off guard. McGee goes down to a knee briefly, but is up and right back at it, pressing Whittaker and contuously firing off punches, mixing in some short uppercuts now. Whittaker is starting to settle into a groove in the latter portion of the round. MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for McGee

Round 2: McGee picks up at the same pace as round one, constantly getting in Whittaker’s face, firing punch after punch. He catches Whittaker square on the chin. Whittaker drops down to a knee, but bounces right back up. McGee swarms, but Whittaker defends well. McGree presses Whittaker to the fence and lands an upward elbow strike that snaps Whittaker’s head back. McGee gets Whittaker briefly to the mat, but they bounce right back up, McGee staying on top of Whittaker, firing the punches. McGee shoots for a takedown, but Whittaker defends. McGee’s face is a little bloody from some of the shots Whittaker has landed, but he hasn’t slowed his pace, as he gets caught by another elbow from Whittaker. Whittaker gets his jab going and lands a couple more elbows late in the round, again finding his groove in the waning moments of the round. MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Whittaker

Round 3: Whittaker starts the round with a new-found aggression, storming after McGee, but McGee weathers the attacks and lands a spinning back kick to the midsection. He follows a short time later with a kick to the body combined with a one-two punch combination. Whittaker doesn’t back up, but eats a stiff right hand as he moves forward. Whitaker gets his jab going and sets up the left hook. McGee isn’t slowing much, though, still firing off numerous combinations and mixing in the kicks a little more now. Whittaker starts to fall into a counter-fighting mode as McGee amplifies his pace in the last half of the round. McGee is now constantly firing, whether it is punches or kicks or some combination thereof, not allowing Whittaker much of a chance to mount any offense. They both go out swinging, but neither is able to land anything significant in the closing moments of the fight. MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 and the fight 29-28 for McGee
