01 Overeem vs Lesnar UFC 141_9649The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission on Tuesday released the UFC Fight Night 26: Shogun vs. Sonnen fighter salaries to MMAWeekly.com.

UFC light heavyweight Chael Sonnen submitted for UFC and Pride champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the night’s main event, but it was Alistair Overeem, in a loss, that topped the disclosed fighter payroll.

UFC Fight Night 26 took place Saturday, Aug. 17, at the TD Garden in Boston.

The following figures are based on the fighter salary information that promoters are required by law to submit to the state athletic commissions, including the winners’ bonuses.

Although mixed martial arts fighters do not have collective bargaining or a union, the fighters’ salaries are still public record, just as with every other major sport in the United States. Any undisclosed bonuses that a promoter also pays its fighters, but does not disclose to the athletic commissions (specifically, pay-per-view bonuses, fight of the night bonuses, etc.), are not included in the figures below.

I see a paycut in Overeems very near future

    • macarrech

      • bajafox

His salary could pay for an entire awesome FREE card on cable

      • Sarcasticball

Indded, Indeed! I truly don’t understand why the hell is he pay more than the combined salary of the two main event fighters… that’s ridiculous!

    • JDMMA

He already did !!!! he made $385+K against Lesnar

      • Mark McDowall

$385k was an average WEC card payroll!!

    • Mark McDowall

      I’d say a paycut of approximately $285,714.29!!

If they cut Fitch for being paid too much and being boring…well then I would say that Overeems unemployment card has been punched they just need to fill in the date of his next loss.

With him being .5-2(I consider his win against Lesnar a half win because due to the tests afterwards showing he was roided out of his mind, still not sure why it wasn’t considered a NC). Throw in a lengthy, very controversy filled suspension and reinstatement of his license…I don’t know why he wasn’t just cut after the Browne loss.

      • Hugh Shakeshaft

170’s bench is a hell of a lot deeper than heavyweight’s.

  • Esilacs

    Sonnen way underpaid.

    • BobLemons

I’d bet that Sonnen has a bunch of other factors written into his contract that go beyond the disclosed figures (more so than most).

      • Sir_Roy

        Let’s hope so.

        • deepgrim

well if you belive what sonnen himself says then he is definately not underpaid!

          • JMoney

How long until people on this forum wake up and realise that these figues are only PART of what fighters get paid..

Do we have to go around in circles and blame Dana for not paying enough again…

Salaries, Locker-Room (payed to MOST fighters who perform and at times is twice as much as the base salary) bonus, PPV bonus (Sonnen will make well over 500,000 for this fight), Fight of the Night, Sub of the night, KO of the night, Sponsorships…

If you haven’t figured it out yet.. The UFC pays it’s fighters.. Dana has said before many times, “What the fighters get paid in total is nobody’s business”… I really don’t see many fighters complaining other than the ones that have never bothered to try and finish a fight… Laying on someone for cash is not what the UFC and MMA is about..

          • deepgrim

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmPoVvVDYH4 . not sure if it is in this interview or not that he states that he earned 8 million for the silva fight on the biasus that he more or less promotes the card itself and hypes the fight etc. in fairness he has a way of wanting you to see his fights, even when you think he is going down. but the fighters who are going to make a big effort to go to all the press shows and do all the media shite to promote the fight/ organisation do deserve that bit more

  • Justin E.

In mma you get paid based on how heavy you are. Period. Overeem is a bum, but if you are a heavyweight you get paid better than champions at lighter classes. I wish they would eliminate the HW division. Its so garbage and these guys don’t deserve to be the best paid division in the sport. So dumb.

    • shakejunt

yes because that would certainly solve the issue…

    • Mark McDowall

I was unaware that MMA fighters are on the same pay scale as cattle!! You entire statement is blown out of the water because Shogun and Sonnen are both LHW’s and they got paid more than Travis Browne who is a HW…

Granted the heavyweights are as exciting as the LW’s or FW’s because they aren’t flying around the cage…but you want to see 2 guys go at it and drop bombs for 15 minutes it doesn’t get any better than a couple HW’s!!

Why No win bonus for Chael P. Sonnen???

    • Jason Tracey

      not in his contract

  • james j

    Can you say Roid

  • james j

He beat Lesnar right into retirement. That match was a damn street beatdown. Roid on roid.

  • Rence

The part that amuses me about AO’s pay is the X,XXX AND 29 cents lol

    • Jonah Aiona

Because he gets paid in pounds.

      • Jonah Aiona

Or is it euros? Anyway, its due to currency.

  • james j

Uriah Hall soon to be in Bellator.

  • Werdoomb

I like to suck all of your units!

  • Two losses in a row I could understand a paycut possibly. But c’mon let’s get kicked in the face by 6’7 Travis Browne and say we came back to win that fight.

  • BobGyro

done nothing in the ufc … but yet makes more then chael and shogun combined. What a bunch of douchebags gO0000 Phuck your hat Dana White
