Jonathan Brookins vs. Erik Koch
Round 1: Brookins works hard for a takedown early, but Koch defends well and they wind up clinched on the fence. Brookins scores with knees and a solid elbow to the head. Brookins goes back to work on the takedown, but Koch defends again and puts a knee to Brookins’ face for his trouble. They remain tied up on the fence, but Brookins lands another solid elbow before the separate. Koch lands a solid left hand followed by a stinging low kick. Koch is showing good hand speed. Brookins continues his pursuit of a takedown, but Koch continues to sprawl out on him. They finish the round once again clinched on the fence. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Brookins.
Round 2: They quickly end up on the fence to open the round, Brookins landing an elbow. Koch separates where he can get better range on his striking and immediately lands a punch and follows with a high kick. Brookins presses him to the cage again, driving in a knee to the body. He manages to get Koch down briefly, but their right back up and against the fence, Brookins trying to take it back down. Brookins finally gets him down, but Koch is in top position and returns back to the feet with no hesitation. They’re along the fence again, but Koch turns and presses Brookins to the fence then separates quickly landing a harsh leg kick. Koch presses with his punches, but Brookins goes back to the well, trying to get the takedown, and finally gets it. He can’t do much before Koch regains his feet, though he sneaks in a punch, tagging Koch as he was getting up. MMAWeekly.com scores round two for Brookins.
Round 3: Koch presses right from the bell, firing punches, but not landing much early. Brookins shoots, but misses the takedown, eating a few punches after the failed attempt. Koch gets off a few more shots before Brookins again goes after the takedown, instead pressing Koch to the cage. Brookins lands an elbow and keeps pressing. Koch gets some separation and goes back to landing the low kick and his jab. They clinch up and Brookins tosses Koch to the mat, but they bounce right back to their feet. Again, Brookins presses to the fence, keeping his weight on Koch and landing the occasional knee to the body. Brookins keeps pressing Koch to the fence until the final horn.
