Round 1: Good start to this one with both being aggressive on the feet. McCray clinches with Hathaway against the cage and fight goes to the ground. Hathaway works McCray’s ankle, but McCray gets out of it and into his opponent’s guard. Hathaway tries to get up, but McCray gets the huge slam. After getting back up a short while later, McCray is able to drag Hathaway down again and the two strike each other with short shots from there. Hathaway attempts to get back up and eats a kick in the process. The round ends with a close one going to McCray 10-9. Could go either way though.
Round 2: Has McCray nearly attempting a spinning back kick, but the two get into a clinch. Scrambling ensues followed by a takedown by McCray which leads to an armbar attempt by Hathaway. McCray executes a nice escape. Back on the feet, the two exchange a couple knees before McCray works for a single-leg against the cage. McCray looks a bit winded at this point as Hathaway presses him against the fence. McCray eats a soft left hand before getting this fight to the ground again as the round ends. 10-9 Hathaway.
Round 3: Lots of fatigue playing a role here. The fight goes to the ground and Hathaway works from half guard, dropping punches as McCray tries to defend. McCray lifts Hathaway off of him and reverses position, pressing his opponent against the fence while on the ground. Hathaway gets back to the feet and Hathaway gets a nice takedown with a double leg. Hathaway now throwing shots from guard. McCray gets up, but eats a knee in the process. Round comes to an end just after Hathaway gets the takedown. 10-9 Hathaway on MMAWeekly’s scorecard.
