The Ultimate Fighting Championship descends upon Virginia for the first time. Gray Maynard vs. Nate Diaz headlines UFC Fight Night 20 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. for the promotion’s first-ever Monday night event.
The night’s co-main event features The Ultimate Fighter season 8 lightweight winner Efrain Escudero putting his 12-0 record on the line against the also undefeated Evan Dunham.

R1 – Feeling each other out early. Diaz talking. Maynard comes in with a combination that comes up with air. Diaz using his reach. Maynard with a right hand. Diaz with a right hand and a leg kick. Maynard answers with a right left. Maynard bleeding below his right eye from a previous cut suffered in training. Maynard with a right handDiaz tries to tie him up. Diaz with two leg kicks followed by a right hand. Maynard fires back with a right down the middle. Diaz taunting Maynard and Maynard taunts back. An all stand up first round. Close round. R2 – Right hand by Maynard. He’s loading up on big right hands looking for a KO. Diaz with a left. Big right hand by Maynard and a shot ot the body. Maynard with his hands down. a right hand by Diaz but Maynard counters with a right hand. Diaz goes to his back but Maynard lets him up. Diaz with a combination but it’s Maynard landing the power shots. Diaz lands a combination and raises his hands taunting Maynard again. Diaz having some success standing that round, but MMAWeekly.com scores it 10-9 for Maynard with the power right hands.
R3 – Maynard bouncing around to start the third. Diaz lands a high kick but does no damage. Maynard with a right hand. Diaz peppering with shots from the outside. Diaz using his reach much better this round. Diaz with jabs as Maynard looks to load up with right hands. Maynard lands a right hand that has Diaz looking for a takedown. R1 – Escudero with an outside leg kick. He pushes the pace moving foward with a combination ending with a kick to the body before clinching with Dunham. Escudero ties him up but they quickly separate. Escudero with an uppercut. Flying knee by Escudero. A right hand by Escudero. He’s chasing Dunham and drops him with a right hand. Dunham gets to guard and works for an arm bar. Escudero drops down for a guillotine. Dunham back to his feet. Escudero slips off of a kick. The round ends with Dunham working to take Escudero’s back. MMAWeekly.com scores the round 10-9 for Escudero.
R2 – Dunham comes in with a flurry to start the round. A kick to the body and straight left by Dunham. Dunham the aggressor this round thus far as Escudero plays counter fighter. Straight left by Dunham. Right hand by Escudero. Dunham goes for a single leg and gets it. Dunham lands short elbows inside Escudero’s half guard followed by right hands. Dunham takes his back and puts on a body triangle. The round ends with Dunham on back mount landing punches. MMAWeekly.com score the round 10-9 for Dunham.
R3 – Escudero works for a guillotine in the opening seconds, but Dunham gets out. Dunham back to his feet and works for a takedown and gets it. He lands in side controle and lands two short elbows. He advances to mount and Escudero gives up his back. He transitions to a triangle and then takes his arm and tweeks it. It’s over. Dunham submits Escudero.

-Aaron Simpson vs. Tom Lawlor
R1 – They exchange but neither land. Lawlor with an uppercut and then clinches. They separate. Lawlor stuns Simpson with a punch dn flurries. Simpson rotates out and moves away. Lawlor hurts Simpson with a counter right hand and tees off on his along the cage. Lwlor with a knee. Lawlor with a right hand. Simpson’s legs are not under him as he tries to recover. The pace slows and Simpson regains his composure. Lawlor counter striking. First round was all Lawlor. MMAWeekly.com scores the first round 10-9 for Lawlor.
R2 – Simpson looks to have recovered and pressing forward in the opening moments of the round. Simpson clinches and goes for a single leg and gets the takedown. Lawlor gives up his back trying to get back to his feet. He’s up and turns into Simpson pressing him against the fence. They separate. Lawlor with a looping right hand. They’re works some dirty boxing in the clinch. Simpson with punches to the body. Simpson moving forward. Lawlor works for a standing guillotine. Simspon with a right hand. They clinch and Lawlor pulls guard while working for a guillotine as the round ends. MMAWeekly.com scores the round 10-9 for Simpson.
R3 – Simpson comes out aggressive with a right hand and a body kick. Simpson goes for a double leg but Lawlor defends. Simspon with a knee from inside the clinch. Simpson with a takedown but Lawlor immediatly back to his feet where he looks for a takedown and gets it, but Simpson bounces back up. Lawlor goes for a kimura and drops down but lets it go. Simpson on top and briefly mounts and Lawlor gives up his back. Simpson ha both hooks in but Lawlor is able to get back to his feet where he works for a single leg. Simpson spins around and gets his back again. They stand with 30 seconds left. They exchange and the round ends. MMAWeekly.com scores the round 10-9 for Simpson.

-Amir Sadollah vs. Brad Blackburn
R1 – Sadollah with a push kick and jab to open the fight. Sadollah working leg kicks. Blackburn with a kick to the body. Sadollah continues with kicks. They clinch briefly and Blackburn works the body with a right hand. The crowd chants “lets go Amir.” Blackburn presses Sadollah against the cage but they quickly separate. Sadollah rocks Blackburn with an uppercut and looks to finish. He slams Blackburn to the ground but lets him up and lands a front kick to the face of Blackburn. The round ends with the fighters tied up. MMAWeekly.com scores it 10-9 for Sadollah.
R2 – They touch gloves and Sadollah back to throwing kicks. Blackburn answers with a leg kick of his own. Blackburn clinches before long and works knees to the body along the cage. Blackburn pumping the jab and Sadollah with more leg kicks. Blackburn ties him up but they’re separated by the ref. Blackburn catches a leg kick and Amir momentarily is on the canvas. Back to his feet, Blackburn clinches and lands a right hand as they separate. Sadollah switching stances and landing kicks. Sadollah with a short right as the round ends. R3 – Sadollah with a flying knee that rocks Blackburn. Sadollah takes him down and works elbows inside Blackburn’s half guard. Blackburn gets back to full guard and recovers.
