Cat Zingano Ring of Fire 38UFC women’s bantamweight contender Cat Zingano late Monday lost her husband of seven years, Mauricio Zingano. Mauricio was found dead in his home, apparently having committed suicide.

The Jefferson County coroner’s office on Tuesday confirmed Mauricio’s death to MMAWeekly.com, although the official cause and manner of death were still pending an investigation.

Cat Zingano on Tuesday issued the following statement to MMAWeekly.com:

Late yesterday evening, I learned that my husband and soul mate of seven years, Mauricio Zingano, has passed away.

My life has changed irrevocably. I am shocked and deeply saddened. Thankfully, my family and friends are coming together to provide the support I need. I am grateful for them, as I know there are many difficult days ahead.

I also very much appreciate the outpour of support from the jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts world. My husband was well known and respected in this close-knit community and I know he would appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers, as do I.

At this time, I respectfully ask everyone to give me privacy as I gather with relatives and friends. Again, I give thanks to all for the kind words and support.

Sincerely,
Cat Zingano

This is so sad. Sorry to hear. Positive vibes sent her way.

A donation account has been set up for Cat and her son. http://www.gofundme.com/68mocc#

Not sure if I can trust this…

      • ChuckCalifornia

Likewise. I’d seen that site used before though and waited till it had significant donations. Still, took me a couple hours before I was willing to risk tossing money away.

I think the sentiment is more meaningful than the cash. I’d feel weird about accepting cash from strangers, but would appreciate the words of support.

Feel bad for saying it, but I don’t think she should fight in the spring – too soon. Put it off till the end of the year at the earliest, give her a spring non-title shot to get her back in the Octagon. She’d likely be eager to push herself into preparing for a title shot in the spring – but its unfair to her and her son to expect that effort. She’ll need some time to settle into a new life with her son.

I feel really bad for her, but everyone heals different. Favre played one of his best games the day his Dad died. I’m sure she’ll do what’s best for her right now.

I don’t think I would donate to anything unless cat herself released it. I’m sure life insurance has his burial covered so why would we give money to her when she doesn’t need it?

          • ChuckCalifornia

I’ve no idea what her income is or if she has instant access to her (estranged) husband’s accounts, but since they are only trying to get $10k I assume she may put it away for her son or just pay bills with it.

Just cremate the guy and bury the ashes in the mountains and save the money for a funeral. Guy doesn’t deserve a funeral.

I just dont get it?! Why do people take their lives like that….especially when they have a family? I know about bad things happening in life, but you dont take your life. I held steady through 3 tragedies in 3 years and never once though of killing myself.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Cat and her family.

Well, isn’t that ironic,…If you can’t use the word “You’re” correctly then YOU’RE the idiot.

Or a philosophy course, or read a good novel, or watch a good documentary, or…

How tragic this is. Lots of questions about why he would take his life are going through Cat’s mind, I can understand how devastating this is for her, friends and family. Myself, having lost a wife to cancer I understand, but under these circumstances, it would be totally confusing. My heart totally goes out to Cat and her family, hope you can find peace and fill the void and be able to live your life once again.

Both probably broke and in financial trouble. sad though.
