UFC Confirms its First Event in Sweden

Posted on by MMAWeekly.com Staff

UFC SwedenUnless you crawled under a rock for the past week, it’s no surprise that Sweden has been in the UFC’s plans for an event this spring.

UFC officials on Wednesday, however, confirmed the UFC on Fuel TV 2 for the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm. The promotion has been planning for quite some time to expand into Sweden, it’s just been a matter of when and where.

Despite the confirmation, little has been released by way of details, although there is one fight already in the works for the card. MMAWeekly.com sources recently confirmed that DeMarques Johnson will face off with John Maguire on the UFC’s first Swedish fight card, which is slated for April 14.

Doesn’t this mean that Gustaffson won’t be facing Top 10 competition in his next fight? Being from Sweden you have to think he will be on this card, but since its a Fuel TV event they aren’t going to go with a huge main event.

I hope they don’t put a crappy card on again for another European venue. The last card in the uk was terrible. The UFC needs to wise up to the fact that we don’t necessarily want to see all our home grown fighters fighting on our cards, sure on the prelims is fine, but we want to see some high calibre international fighters too.

i liked UFC 138 and im from england, yeah most of the fights were **** but we got barao vs pickett, mills KO cope, etim submit faaloto and alves beat abedi. I would like more quality fights though

It’s true we got good fights in terms of quality, but nothing in terms of “big names”, not even a #1 contenders match or anything. We didn’t even get any of our biggest home names either, no bisping, hardy, Pearson etc.
