Georges “Rush” St-Pierre headlines the UFC 87 fight card defending his UFC welterweight title against Jon Fitch. Brock Lesnar returns to the octagon taking on Pride and UFC veteran Heath Herring while Roger Huerta and Kenny Florian face off in a lightweight match that could determine the next contender for BJ Penn’s belt.

UFC 87 LIVE PLAY-BY-PLAY:
-Georges St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch
R1-Fitch misses with a right hand and St. Pierre takes him down. Fitch using wrist control with St. Pierre inside his closed guard. St. Pierr moves to half guard peppering him with the occasional elbow or punch. Fitch got back to his feet briefly but St. Pierre grabs a leg and takes him back down with a single leg. Fitch gets back to his feet. St. Pierre drops Fitch with a right hand and St. Pierre jumps on him landing a series of big shots. Fitch survives, some how. Fitch gets back to his feet but is on rubber legs. St. Pierre knocks Fitch down again and passes to side control. St. Pierre mounts him. The round ends with Fitch getting out of the mount. Fitch took a beating in round one.

R2-Fitch looks to have his legs back. They stand in the center of the octagon picking their exchanges. St. Pierre using his jab will, landing often with it. Fitch lands a nice body shot and the pace slows. St. Pierre off the mark with a spinning back kick and follows up wth a combination. Right hand by Fitch followed by a left. Fitch landing with his shots now. St. Pierre with leg kicks and Fitch lands another body shot. St. Pierre goes for a takedown and Fitch stuffs it. St. Pierre with a big left hand and goes for a spinning back kick. Fitch looked a lot better in round two.

R3-St. Pierre drops Fitch with a big right hand that landed perfectly. St. Pierre jumps on him and gets his back. Fitch rolls and lands in St. Pierre’s guard. Fitch works punches to the body and light shots to the side of St. Pierre’s head. St. Pierre escapes and sweeps to regain top position. Fitch back to his feet with two minutes left. Outside leg kick by St. Pierre. Big right hand by St. Pierre. Fithc is stunned and eats a high kick. St. Pierre landing big shots before slamming Fitch to the canvas.

R4-Fitch is battered but still there. Fitch lands a punch that cuts St. Pierre over the left eye. The pace has slowed with St. Pierre landing jabs. Fitch returns fire with a body kick. Fitch goes for a takedown but St. Pierre stuffs it. St. Pierre looks at the close wiht two minutes left. Fitch goes for a single leg but St. Pierre bounces on one leg across the octagon. St. Pierre gets Fitch to the ground with a double leg and has Fitch against the fence. St. Pierre goes for a leg lock as the round ends

R5-St. Pierre with a left hand to open the round. Fitch fires and misses with a high kick. St. Pierre continues to land his jab over and over. A spinning back fist by St. Pierre that glances Fitch and then a double leg putting Fitch on his back. St. Pierre works ground and pound with punches to the head and body. Fitch gets back to his feet with two minutes left only to be taken down again.

-Brock Lesnar vs. Heath Herring
R1-Lesnar with a flying knee that misses to start the fight. Lesnar drops Herring with a right hand and rushes in. The fighters are standing against the fence with Lesnar trying to get a guillotine while Herring lands punches to the body. The separate. Lesnar gets the double leg takedown and passes Herring’s guard. Herring gives up his back adn Lesnar lands punches to the side of his head. Lesnar lands two knees to the body. Herring unable to get out from under Lesnar. Lesnar lands three big knees to the body as the round ends.

R2-Herring fends off a Lesnar takedown. Lesnar lands an outside leg kick. Lesnar gets him down with a throw and has Herring’s back and then into side control. Lesnar gets to the mount but Herring rolled to get out. Lesnar is back in side control where he lands several knees to the body. Herring works his way back to his feet but they’re clinched up along the cage. Lesnar lands a nice knee to the body. Herring lands a couple of knees to the body. Lesnar gets him down as the bell rings.

R3-Lesnar opens the final round with a big kick to the body. Herring moves forward moving Lesnar to the fence but Lesnar spins him and has Herring pressed against the cage before taking the fight to the ground. Herring thought about a kimura but Lesnar mounts him. Herring gives up his back. Herring eventually scrambles back to his feet and lands a couple of punches before Lesnar takes him down again. Lesnar mounts him and Herring again gives up his back.

R1-Emerson lands a big right hand stunning Gamburyan. He followed up with a left hand from his knees as Gamburyan was on his back knocking him out.

-Kenny Florian vs. Roger Huerta
R1-Huerta opens with a leg kick. Florian returns the favor. They exchange leg kicks again. Huerta loading up with his right hand but so far hasn’t connected with it. Florian catches a leg kick and takes Huerta down and immediately moves to mount. Huerta gives up his back and scrambles back to his feet. Huerta lands a combination and Florian goes for another takedown but Huerta has none of it. They jockey for position along the cage before separating. Close first round.

R2-Florian a little more aggressive this round throwing kicks. Huerta works for a single leg but Florian fends it off. Huerta goes for a superman punch that misses adn Florian goes for a takedown and eventually gets it. Florian moved to side control and then to mount. Huerta gives up his back and pops out the back again. Florian with an inside leg kick, and another. Florian sweeps his leg and knocks Huerta down but Huerta immediately back to his feet. Huerta goes for another superman punch that misses and Florian clinches. The round ends.

R3-Florian with a front kick that lands. Forian goes for a takedown. Huerta fends it off. Florian lands a knee and another knee. Huerta tries to time a knee as Florian takes him down. After taking a couple of shots, Huerta is back to his feet. Florian with a punch and a knee. They’re slugging it out with Florian getting the better of the exchanges. Another front kick by Florian that lands. Huerta lands a nice right hand. Florian lands a punch to the body followed by two right hands and then takes Huerta down. Huerta back up. Florian with a jab as the round ends.

-Demian Maia vs. Jason MacDonald
R1-MacDonald moving forward and clinches where Maia pulls guard. Maia applies a triangle choke. MacDonald in a lot of trouble. MacDonald escapes and takes Maia’s back. Maia rolls and eventually gets back to full guard. MacDonald stands out of his guard and lands a few punches. MacDonald attempts a guillotine, but Maia fends it off and takes MacDonald’s back where he works for a rear naked choke. MacDonald gets out as the round ends.

R2-They come out and exchange immediately and MacDonald clinches. Maia Thai clinches and lands knees before getting a trip takedown. Maia moves to full mount where he works punches and elbows. MacDonald gets back to half guard after being mounted for nearly four minutes. MacDonald tries to escape while Maia works for an arm bar. MacDonald is out and inside Maia’s guard.

R3-Maia immediately goes for a takedown and Maia gets it. MacDonald tried a guillotine and in a scramble gets top position. MacDonald gets his back momentarily but Maia regains top positin and moves to mount. MacDonald gives up his back and Maia applies a rear naked choke that forces MacDonald to tap.

-Tamdan McCrory vs. Luke Cummo
R1-McCrory aggressive early, pinning Cummo up against the cage. Tamdan lands a few uppercuts in the clinch. McCrory tries two hip tosses but is unsuccessful. The “Barn Cat” gets a takedown and lands in side mount. McCrory takes his back and attempts a rear naked choke. The fans applaud as Cummo defends well. Cummo gets back in guard and McCrory responds with some strikes. Tamdan stands up and throws a big punch. He attempts an armbar but Cummo escapes and lands in his guard as the bell sounds.

R2-McCrory gets a takedown early and almost attains full mount. Tamdan continues to throw strikes from the guard and transitions to Cummo’s back again. Cummo defending the RNC well again. McCrory attempts an armbar and Luke escapes, putting him in Tamdan’s guard. McCrory attempts a fake armbar attempt and makes a slick transition to Cummo’s back. McCrory lands many big shots from the guard. The round ends with Cummo attempt to use the rubber guard.

R3-Cummo lands a nice body shot and a right hook stuns McCrory temporarily. Cummo gets a takedown and lands in half guard. McCrory scrambles back up and attempts a double against the fence. Tamdan bulldozes Cummo down with a spear reminiscent of Brock Lesnar’s wrestling signature move and lands in side mount. Tamdan moves in position for another armbar attempt and transitions into omaplata. Cummo stands back up and McCrory lands a very still jab, followed by another takedown. Cummo attempts a triangle attempt but McCrory slams his way out near the end of the round.

-Cheick Kongo vs. Dan Evensen
R1-Kongo lands a pair of leg kicks early as Evensen tries to close the gap. The fighters clinch against the cage and Kong slams Dan with a double. Kongo drags Evensen off of the fence by his leg and attempts an axe kick. The ref stands the fighters back up and the two clinch against the fence again. Kongo is warned for holding on to his opponent’s shorts. Evensen attempts a standing guillotine but Kongo escapes. The French kickboxer finally gets a takedown and lands some strikes from half guard. The fight is stood back up and Kong lands a big straight right hand that drops Evensen. A follow up flurry forces Yves Lavigne to halt the fight.

-Andre Gusmao vs. Jon Jones
R1-Jones attempts a sloppy single leg that the Brazilian easily escapes. The fighters clinch against the fence, exchanging a few knees. Gusmao lands a low kick and Jones responds with a looping right hook. Jones gets the takedown and lands in side guard against the fence. Gusmao gets back up and responds to a Jones flurry with counter leg kicks. Jones lands a low blow and the ref didn’t see it right away, allowing three unanswered blows to Gusmao’s head. The fans boo in displeasure as the ref talks to Jon. The fight resumes with a nice exchange and a couple of spinning backfist attempts by Jones.

R2-The fighters clinch in the middle and Jones lands another low blow. After a brief rest, the fight restarts. Jones chasing Gusmao, landing the cleaner shots. Both fighters land straight punches and Gusmao pins Jones against the fence. The ref resets the fighters and Jones attempts another spinning backfist that grazes Gusmao. Another spinning backfist attempt has Gusmao respond with a big flurry of his own.

R3-Fighters start off a little tentative with Jones closing the gap. Fighters scramble after a Jones takedown attempt and exchange a very nice flurry. Gusmao’s left eye is swelling a bit. Jones lands a spinning back kick and the two exchange knees. Gusmao seems to be fatiguing as Jones lands a flying knee to his chest. Gusmao attempts to take his opponent down but Jones reverses with a single leg of his own, landing in side mount. Gusmao lands a nice up kick after Jones fails to attain full mount. The fight ends with Gusmao failing to secure a submission from the bottom.

-Steve Bruno vs. Chris Wilson
R1-Fighters circle early, showing respect. Wilson closes the distance with strikes and Bruno clinches against the fence. Bruno lands a nice straight right hand and Wilson continues to push forward. Bruno attempts a single leg and Wilson lands a few elbows. The fighters get back up and Wilson is successful with a hip throw. Both fighters stand up again. Wilson lands a knee that sends Bruno retreating to the mat. The Team Quest fighter takes his back but is only able to secure one hook. Both hooks are in the fighters have their backs to the fence while Bruno defends against the rear naked choke.

R2-Bruno attempts a single leg but Wilson defends. The fighters break free and Wilson gets a takedown. Bruno scrambles for another single leg takedown but Wilson is defending well again. Wilson lands an upper cut that drops Bruno followed by a knee. Bruno is hanging on with a double. Wilson has Bruno trapped in an inverted triangle from top and is throwing elbows to his ribs. The ref stands the fighters back up and Wilson defends another Bruno takedown attempt as the round ends.

R3-Bruno stalking Wilson but seems a little gassed. Wilson lands an uppercut that drops Bruno again and attempts to secure a rear naked choke along the fence. Steve manages to get back up only to be pulled back down to the mat. Bruno finally secures a double leg takedown but doesn’t seem to have the strength to hold Wilson. The fighters get back to the center of the octagon and Bruno is unwilling to exchange, going for a lazy single leg takedown attempt. The fans boo and the ref stands the fighters up shortly after. Another failed takedown attempt puts Wilson in control. Fight ends with Wilson landing elbows.

-Ben Saunders vs. Ryan Thomas
R1-Sanders with knees early, both fighters exchanging kicks. Thomas has double underhooks against the fence but is unable to take Ben down. Saunders landing more leg kicks to Thomas’ side. Straight right drops Thomas and but Saunders falls into an inverted triangle. Saunders escapes and throws knees from side guard. Saunders takes his opponent’s back and locks in a body triangle. Thomas does a good job at defending the rear naked choke.

R2-Saunders gets the takedown early, lands in Thomas’ guard. Fighters get back up and exchange again. Ben lands a high and Thomas counters with his, slipping to the mat. Saunders lets him back up. Saunders lands another kick to the side and Thomas is grimacing in pain. Ben goes in for the finish, locking in an armbar.
