LAS VEGAS – All of the fighters for
Saturday night’s UFC 81 event at Mandalay Bay made weight on Friday.
Brock Lesnar, the man garnering much of the
attention for this event, tipped the scales at the heavyweight limit of 265
pounds for his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut. His opponent, former
heavyweight champion Frank Mir, weighed in at 255 pounds.
Addressing the crowd, Lesnar said, "The
show is over. It’s time to go."
Tim Sylvia has the opportunity to become the
first three-time UFC heavyweight champ if he can get past Antonio Rodrigo
Nogueira commented, "It’s going to be a
big war. I want to have that belt."
“Nogueira is a stud,” said Sylvia, who got a
very warm reaction from the fans that seemed to move him. “I’ve been watching
him since before I started fighting.”
The fireworks from the weigh-ins came from
Marvin Eastman and Terry Martin, who had an intense stare down before Martin
shoved Eastman. UFC president Dana White stepped in to separate the fighters.
