CINCINNATI – The
fighters for Saturday night’s Ultimate Fighting Championship 77 weighed-in on
Friday before a huge crowd at the U.S. Bank Arena.
The main event
features a rematch between current middleweight champion Anderson Silva and
former champion Rich Franklin.
contenders’ bout between Tim Sylvia and Brandon Vera is also garnering much
attention following the exodus of former UFC heavyweight champion Randy
Following delays in
receiving his work visa in Brazil and arriving late Thursday morning in
Cincinnati, there were obvious questions surrounding Silva coming into this
fight with Franklin. Of particular interest was whether or not the travel
difficulties would have an affect on his weight.
Those questions were
answered when Silva stepped on the scales weighing 184.5 pounds, while
Franklin, before a standing ovation, logged in at 184 pounds.
Despite Sylvia coming
in a rather light, at least for him, 260.5 pounds, he still dwarfed his
opponent with a 35-pound weight difference.
weighed-in for his welterweight preliminary bout with Forrest Petz at 171.5
pounds. There is a one-pound tolerance for non-title fights, but Burkman was
still a half-pound over that mark. He was given one hour to lose the final 0.5
an hour after the weigh-ins, Burkman confirmed to MMAWeekly that he did make
weight on his second attempt.
