- UFC 64 LIVE RESULTS!

UFC 64: “Unstoppable” from the the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, is in the record books. Sean Sherk was crowned UFC Lightweight Champion after defeating Kenny Florian by unanimous decision. Anderson Silva was crowned the new UFC Middleweight Champion after disposing of Rich “Ace” Franklin in the first round by TKO.

RESULTS:

- Kurt Pellegrino defeated “Junior” Assuncao by Rear Naked Choke at 2:04 of Round 1.

“Junior” Assuncao came out throwing wildly and Pellegrino took him down. After being peppered with some ground and pound, Assuncao gave up his back. Pellegrino sank in the Rear Naked Choke forcing a tap out and the end of the fight.

- Clay Guida defeated Justin James by Rear Naked Choke at 4:42 of Round 2.

The first round saw Justin using his reach advantage to keep Guida at bay, landing some nice hands and knees. The second half of round one Guida took Justin down and worked some ground and pound. As the round closed James nearly had an Arm Bar. MMAWeekly scored Round one 10-9 for James.

Round two was all Guida. Clay took James down early in the round and worked ground and pound there after. Clay hurt James with a nice combo forcinig James to give up is back where Clay sunk in a Rear Naked Choke forcing James to tap out.

- Yushin Okami defeated Kalib Starnes by TKO ref stoppage (strikes) at 1:40 Round 3.

Kalib came out aggressive to open the fight, but Yushin was able to land right jabs and straight lefts. Starnes was able to secure a takedown and put on a Guillotine Choke, but Yushin fought out of it. The round ended Yushin pressing Kalib against the fence landing knees to the body. MMAWeekly scored Round one 10-9 for Yushin Okami.

Round two, much of the round took place in the clinch position along the cage with both fighters exchanging knees. Yushin scored with a takedown, giving him the slight advantage in the round. MMAWeekly scored Round two 10-9 for Yushin Okami.

Round three, Yushin came out scoring with combinations. He landed a high kick to the head of Kalib stunning him. Okami took Kalib down and quickly moved from half guard to half mount. With Kalib bleeding and hurt, Yushin rained down punches until the referee stopped the fight.

- Mike Nickels vs. Keith Jardine CANCELLED. This fight was cancelled due to a back injury to Mike Nickels.

- Spencer Fisher defeated Dan Lauzon by TKO at 4:38 of Round one.

Dan Lauzon came to fight, pressing the action early. He was able to take Fisher down and work ground and pound for the better part of the round. Fisher was able to get back to his feet and inflict damage, landing punches and knees from the clinch. He dropped Dan with a punch and the referee haulted the action.

- Carmelo Marrero defeated Cheick Kongo by split decision (29-28 Marrero, 29-28 Kongo, 29-28 Marrero).

Round one, Carmelo secured a takedown early and remained in side control for much of the round working ground and pound. Kongo was able to get back to guard, but round one ended with Marrero working ground and pound up against the cage. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 Carmelo Marrero.

Round two, Kongo presses the action early, but Marrero took him down and began where he left off in round one. Kongo worked a Guillotine Choke for over a minute, but Marrero escaped. After the referee stood them back up, Marrero secured another takedown. The referee stood the fight up again, but Marrero double-legged Kongo. The round ended with Marrero working ground and pound. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Carmelo Marrero.

Round three, Kongo shook off the first takedown attempt by Marrero. the fighters remained clinched along the cage until Kongo attempted a hip toss the left him on the bottom. As the fight was brought back to their feet by the referee, Kongo got a takedown of his own. Kongo wasn’t able to inflict much damage from that position. TGhe fight ends with both fighters looking exhausted. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Cheik Kongo.

- Jon Fitch defeated Kuniyoshi Hironaka by unanimous decision.

The fighers clinched along the cage until Fitch got the takedown. Hironaka immediately slapped on a Triangle Choke and worked it for nearly two minutes. Fitch was able to escape and finish the round with ground and pound. MMAWeekly scored Round one 10-9 for Fitch.

Round two, Fitch came out throwing punches and kicks. Fitch took the fight to the ground where he worked ground an pound. Following a referee stand up, Fitch landed a high kick to Hironaka’s head and then took him down. The round ended with Fitch landing big elbows inside of Hironaka’s guard. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Fitch.

Round three, both fighters came out willing to exchange. Both landed shots. Fitch secured a takedown, but was cut. The referee checked the cut, but the fight continued. When action resumed Fitch went right back to working ground and pound. The fight ended with both fighters on their feet throwing wildly. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Jon Fitch.

- Sean Sherk defeated Kenny Florian bt unanimous decision to become the UFC Lightweight Champion.

Sherk immediately takes the bout to the ground. Sherk spent much of the time trying to pass Kenny’s guard. He was able to get to half guard. Kenny tried for a Guillotine, but it wasn’t there. The round ended with Sherk working ground and pound. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Sherk.

Round two. Sherk takes him down and works ground and pound. Sherk was cut and they stopped the action to check his cut. The fight was continued. Sherk went right back to ground and pound. Florian reversed Sherk and gets back to his feet. Sherk presses Florian against the cage working for a single leg takedown. The round ended with both fighters standing in the middle of the octagon. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Sherk.

Round three, they exchange in the middle of the cage with leg kicks. Sherk shot in for a double leg and got it. He worked ground and pound from there. Florian looked to be gassed as blood continued to flow from the cut on Sherk’s forehead. Sherk landed a lot of shots inside of Florian’s guard. The referee stood the figters up where they exchanged in the middle of the octagon. Florian landed a high kick to end the round, but MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Sean Sherk.

Round four, Florian came out throwing high kicks. Sherk shot in for a takedown, but Florian defended well. Sherk was able to secure the takedown, however, where he went back to ground and pound with Florian pressed against the fence. Sherk peppered Florian with shots nearly the entire round. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Sean Sherk.

Final round, Sherk took Florian down following a Florian high kick to the head. After not doing much inside of Kenny’s guard, the referee stood the fighters up. Kenny continued to throw high kicks until Sherk shot in for a double leg. Florian slapped on a Guillotine Choke, but Sherk escaped. Florian tried to get back to his feet, but Sherk slammed him to the canvas despite Florian grabbing the fence. The fight ended with Sherk in Florian’s guard landing body shots. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Sean Sherk.

- Anderson Silva defeated Rich Franklin by TKO (strikes) at 3:59 of Round one, becoming the new UFC Middleweight Champion.

Round one, they felt each other out for the first minute. Rich landing leg kicks. They clinch. Silva landing knees from the clinch. Silva working from the Muay Thai clinch landing big knees. Rich is hurt. Anderson landed a knee to the head from the clinch and followed with a punch dropping Rich to the canvas. The referee stops the action. Anderson Silva becomes the new UFC Middleweight Champion.
