The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the performance-based fighter bonuses stemming from the UFC 188 pay-per-view event in Mexico City on Saturday. Fabrico Werdum, Patrick Williams, Yair Rodriguez and Charles Rosa took home the $50,000 incentives.
The Fight of the Night bonus went to featherweight bout between Rodriguez and Rosa. Rodriguez showed marked improvements since his last appearance at UFC 180 in Novemeber. The 22-year-old winner of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America employed a diverse attack. Rosa absorbed early punishment, but kept moving forward. The judges scored the fight for Rodriguez by split decision.
Werdum was awarded a Performance of the Night bonus for his third-round finish of champion Cain Velasquez in the fight card’s main attraction. He battered Velasquez with striking before submitting him on the ground. With the win, Werdum unified the UFC heavyweight title.
Williams earned a Performance of the Night award for his quick submission of Alejandro Pérez in preliminary action. After stunning Perez with a punch, Williams locked on a standing guillotine choke that rendered his opponent unconscious.
UFC 188: Velasquez vs. Werdum took place at the Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City on Saturday. It was the second time the Las Vegas-based fight promotion hosted an event in Mexico’s capital.
