The UFC 186 fight card has been the most beleaguered of the year, but the line-up was finally settled earlier this week. On Friday, the fighters in the final line-up stepped on the scale in Montreal to make their bouts official for Saturday’s event at the Bell Centre.
“Kyoji Horiguchi is a great fighter. I’ve fought the best in this division. Me and my camp went very hard in training to prepare for his guy, and tomorrow night we’re going to go out and show him what it means to fight for the championship,” said Johnson after weighing in.
The co-main event saw several different changes over the past month. Rampage Jackson was pulled out of the fight with Fabio Maldonado due to a Bellator injunction stemming from a contract dispute. But in a last-ditch effort, Rampage’s participation was re-instituted earlier this week, when his team was able to get the injunction lifted.
The Jackson vs. Maldonado fight early on Friday – prior to weigh-ins – was changed from a 205-pound light heavyweight bout to a 215-pound catchweight bout, allowing some cushion for Jackson after his struggles in just staying in the fight. Also in a catchweight bout, John Makdessi and Shame Campbell will compete at 160-pounds instead of the typical lightweight division limit of 155-pounds.
