Heading into their UFC 184 Prelims headlining bout, Mark Munoz and Roan Carneiro couldn’t have been any more at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Munoz had spent nearly two of the last three years nursing injuries, losing three of his four most recent bouts. Carneiro entered the fight on the heels of a five-fight winning streak, including three of those in a single-night, eight-man tournament that he won.

Munoz vs CarneiroCarneiro didn’t skip a beat from his impressive tournament performance, making quick work of Munoz, who hadn’t set foot in the Octagon since last May.

Munoz tried to shoot on Carneiro early, but the Brazilian sprawled and put Munoz on his back. With Carneiro working from side control, Munoz tried to scramble, but gave up his back in the process.

Carneiro latched on a rear naked choke and didn’t let go until Munoz went completely out and the referee waved off the fight at 1:40 of round one.

Carneiro had a previous tenure in the UFC, exiting the promotion in 2008 after going 2-3. With the win over Munoz, he has since gone 8-1.

That referee should be cut from the roster. Munoz was clearly out, limp with dead eyes for way too long. Dana White complained that Mazzagatti was going to kill someone but that guy was terrible.

one mistake is nothing compared to the dozens of errors made by mazzagatti and winslow.

      • Sadstrangelittleman

One mistake is way more than “nothing” It takes one mistake to end up with a dead fighter……… Every mistake is something whether it’s late/early/whatever. By your logic it’s OK for a ref to make a mistake, just as long as he doesn’t make more than one.

        • Sarge

That ref doesn’t have a bad rep like mazzagatti does, he still did his job right even if he was wrong by a few seconds. You act like he killed someone before he pulled them off.

    • mark

I agree. he let three fights go too long. his job is to protect the fighters so they can live to fight another day

    • Sadstrangelittleman

There is no “roster” The refs are independent contractors so they can’t really be “cut”

      • Chloe ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

So the commission just calls people from the phone book? Errr, no. They have a list of names so let’s call it a list instead of roster. If they remove his name from that list he will be effectively cut, call that what you will. Semantics be damned, the end result is the same.

        • Sadstrangelittleman

“Errr, no” It is not a roster in any sense. You realize that any ref can take a job in any organization/state right? So even if your idea worked in any way that would be one commission taking a refs name off the list, he or she could still work pretty much anywhere they want. And NO they organizations do not pick the refs nor do they have a real say in who refs the fights.

          • Chloe ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

You’re just a troll trying to incite an argument aren’t you? I never suggested even remotely that the organizations had any choice of or influence on referees or judges, so shove that.

Of course each state has their own commission and I never suggested otherwise. You’re distorting my statement. Stop it.

Any approved ref in the state which he is approved in by that state’s commission can be selected and he can accept the job if he wants. Jeez, is that exactly correct enough for you??? No they CAN’T work anywhere they want to as you say. If they’re not approved in that state then they can’t referee there even if they do want to. If that doesn’t somehow indicate there is a roster, list, group, club, organization, spreadsheet, union or whatever you want to call it then what the hell is it?? Yeah, it’s a roster by SOME definition. It’s a matter of semantics. You seem to be suggesting anybody can referee if they want to, all they need to do is show up. They’re certainly not standing on the corner waiting for someone to drive by and ask if they want a job refereeing. Except that’s where that ref should be.

OK I’m done with this foolishness. I fully expect you to respond with another distortion of something that wasn’t said but I’m done. Thanks for playing.

Posting a reply to a comment is not trying to incite an argument. It’s a discussion, that’s what adults do.

Anyway have a great night miss.

            And next for what exactly?

          • Sadstrangelittleman

Oh and next time you want to try and tell people how long their posts should be, take a deep breath and go back to sitting in the corner and reading your pop up picture book.

Muñoz should retire now or else he might be the first UFC fighter dying inside the octagon for refusing to tap.
