He presses Jingliang against the cage and works to get the fight to the ground. He does and lands in side control. He takes Jingliang’s back. Michaud’s left eye is swollen. The round ends. Round 3: Jingliang lands his jab to start the final frame. Michaud inches forward. Jingliang lands a combination on the inside. Michaud clinches. He lands an elbow and works for a takedown. Jingliang defends the attempt. Michaud changes levels as Jingliang moves forward and takes him down. He works in Jingliang’s full guard. Michaud peppers Jingliang with short punches. He lands a elbow that cuts Jingliang. Michaud lands punches and moves to half guard. He works to take Jingliang’s back. Jingliang gets to his feet and takes Michaud down. He works from the half guard position. He lands left hands. Michaud reverses him and applies a guillotine choke. Jingliang pops his head out and lands punches from top. He moves to side control. The round ends. MMAWeekly scores it 10-9 for Jingliang.
The judges scored the fight for Jingliang by split decision. The scorecards read 29-28, 28-29 and 30-27.
“We really didn’t expect him to be that tough out there. He was much stronger than I expected too. I’m going to stay strong and keep working with my wonderful coaches. I’m the next Bruce Lee. Wait and see.”
“He was just too tough for me. I hurt my hand at some point and he really messed my toe up on one of the takedowns. It’s pretty swollen now but it didn’t affect my in the fight. Hats off to him.”
