Urijah Faber vs Renan Barao - UFC 149

The Ultimate Fighting Champ, at the behest of its television partners at FOX, moved its annual Super Bowl Weekend from Las Vegas to Newark, N.J. to coincide with the Super Bowl, which airs on FOX this year. They also loaded up the UFC 169 fight card with two title fights and a pivotal heavyweight bout.

Renan Barão puts his newly unified bantamweight belt on the line in a main event rematch against Urijah Faber, the man he defeated for the interim belt at UFC 149 in 2012. Barão has defended his belt a couple time, while Faber went on a four-fight tear to get back into title contention.

“The difference is I’m going to win this time,” said Faber after stepping on the scales.  “I’m ready for a war, a real war.  And I’m going to do anything in my power to make this happen.”

“I hope to knock him out.  I’m here to fight one of the best in the world, and I’m here to win,” said Barao.

In the co-main event, Barão’s teammate, Jose Aldo, puts his featherweight belt on the line against Ricardo Lamas. Lamas has been waiting a year for his shot at the belt, while Aldo has defeated Frankie Edgar and Chan Sung Jung during the time that Lamas has sat idle.

A key heavyweight bout on the card puts the UFC tenures of Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem on the line. Both have been underperforming lately, leaving UFC president Dana White saying that – while not necessarily a loser-leaves-town fight – both men “need to perform on Saturday” if they are to remain on the roster.

UFC 169: Barão vs. Faber takes place Saturday, Feb. 1, at The Prudential Center, but first, on Friday, the fighters had to step on the scale and make weight.

Lineker missed weight again? That’s third time in a row. I know UFC needs guys at 125, but he’s just not able to do it. I hope he loses, cause what’s the point of him beating potential contenders when he cannot make weight.

    • Seth

He came to the stage in weight cutting pants (no idea what those are called) and hoodie, sweaty and stuff – he prolly came out sauna straight to stage :/ Sad to watch him damaging his body, getting nothing out of it… 🙁

    • Shakir Hanifa

he should be cut. If you cant make weight for 127, then fight at 135. Its about being professional. Ali will beat him anyways.

      • Seth

Someone should advice him moving up to 135 :/ Its 4th fight in his last 6 at 125 when missed weight…

  • Grisscoat

Wow. Makdessi overshot his weight cut. He must be devastated.

    • He weighs less than my 5 year old!!
      Must be in stunning shape!

so if the fights get changed to sun will there be another weigh in or will this one be it? kinda would like it to be sun for the fighters to get a full day of hydration and would fight at a higher peak.

    • Ron Bidelman Jr.

If the weigh in is at 4 then thats a full day is it not??

  • Timothy Malone

Main event is such an awesome fight. Really don’t know who will win, though I’m leaning more towards Barao doing it again

  • drkdisciple

Lineker should train with Makdessi then he would be able to make weight.

  • Ron Bidelman Jr.
