14,806 spectators filled the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday to witness the twelve-bout card headlined by the welterweight title fight between Georges St-Pierre and challenger Johny Hendricks. Gate receipts for the event totaled $5.7 million.
St-Pierre retained his title by split decision, although most, including UFC president Dana White, scored the fight for Hendricks.
Following the win, St-Pierre announced that he needed to step away from the sport for “at least a little bit” to deal with things in his personal life.
Former light heavyweight titleholder Rashad Evans steamrolled Chael Sonnen in the co-main event of the evening, finishing Sonnen in the first round. Robbie Lawler emerged as a contender in the welterweight division with his split decision win over Rory MacDonald.
In other welterweight action, Tyron Woodley knocked out Josh Koscheck in the opening round of their main card bout.
