UFC 166 Free Fight Flashback: Junior dos Santos Spinning Head Kick KO of Mark Hunt (video)

Posted on by MMAWeekly.com Staff

Junior dos Santos vs Mark HuntFormer UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos needed an impressive win to erase the memory of his 2012 loss to Cain Velasquez. This dynamic attack and dramatic win over the iron-chinned Mark Hunt certainly did the trick, earning Cigano another title shot.

Junior dos Santos returns to the Octagon in the UFC 166 main event to challenge current champion Cain Velasquez in the third bout of their trilogy.

As soon as Hunt’s toe exploded on him in the first, his timing and aggressiveness was literally halved. Can see it’s a big bloodied stump. He stopped throwing leg kicks with it and he was hobbling ever since.

Oh wow, didn’t notice that when I watched it live. You can even see him leaving bloody toe prints as he takes steps. Surprised I didn’t hear anything about it afterwards but I guess it’s not really a big headline since it’s Mark Hunt. That’s really a shame though, I was rooting for Hunt after hearing about his back story after the pride buyout. Really have to respect a guy who passes on free paychecks and would rather fight for them.

We agree there. I’d take it a step further and say that I think the fight might have gone differently had he not blown out his toe in the first. Hunt’s power is scary.
