Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier

Round 1: Poirier lands first with an outside leg kick.  He moves in with another and Koch answers with an outside leg kick.  Poirier lands a combination that hurts Koch.  Koch goes down and Poirier follows him down.  Koch applies a triangle choke.  It looks tight.  Poirier’s head is read but he gets out of the submission attempt.  Koch applies another triangle but Poirier gets out and lets Koch up.  They clinch and battle for position along he cage.   Poirier lands a knee to the body.  Koch answers with one of his own.  Poirier lands a left hand.  He lands a right hook that knock Koch down.  Poirier dives on him and lands hammer fists and elbows.  Poirier lands a right hand followed by a left.  Koch uses the cage to stand only to be taken down by Poirier.  Poirier lands in side control.  Poirier applies a d’arce choke.  It’s tight but the bell sounds.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Poirier.

Round 2: Koch moves in with his jab.  Koch lands a counter right hand.  Poirier moving forward.  He lands an outside leg kick.  Poirier lands a straight left.  The two exchange jabs.  Poirier lands a left hand and takes Koch down.  He works to take Koch’s back and does.  He applies a body triangle.  He advances to the mount position.  Poirier lands solid left hands.  Koch stands.  Poirier delivers a knee to the body followed by another.  Poirier creates a little distance inside the clinch and lands an elbow.  Poirier briefly looks for a single leg and lets it go. Round 3: Koch throwing his jab.  Poirier steps in and lands with his left.  He works for a takedown along the cage.  They work for position in the clinch.  Poirier is pressing Koch against the cage.  He lands a knee to the body.  Poirier works for a takedown but Koch ends up gaining top position.  Koch works inside Poirier’s full guard.  Koch delivers a hard elbow.  Koch lands a right hand.  Poirier rolls and Koch takes his back.  He rolls Poirier over.  A minute remains in the round.  Poirier stands and tries to shake Koch off his back.  Koch drags Poirier to the ground.  He applies a body triangle.  Koch goes for a rear naked choke but Poirier defends the submission attempt.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Poirier.

The judges score the fight for Poirier by unanimous decision.  The scorecards read 29-28, 29-27 and 29-27.
