Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian at UFC 136The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Saturday announced that UFC 163 would take place on Aug. 3 in Rio de Janerio, Brazil.

The announcement came from UFC executive Marshall Zelaznik during the UFC on FX 8: Belfort vs. Rockhold post-fight press conference.

A featherweight title fight between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Anthony Pettis headlines the card.

Pettis (16-2) is dropping down from the lightweight division where he was the top contender in order to face the Brazilian champion.

Welterweights Josh Koscheck and Demian Maia were also confirmed for the fight card.

Koscheck (17-7) is coming off back-to-back losses and hopes to rebound. Maia (18-4) is riding a three-fight winning streak that includes a win over Kosheck’s long-time training partner Jon Fitch in his last outing.

UFC 163 will be the fourth time Brazil will host a UFC event in 2013.

    Bye-bye Koscheck…

  • This is a great fight for Maia. Koscheck is a great athlete and always a great fight for anyone at 170. Although I like Maia I wouldn’t be surprised to see Koscheck take this one by stoppage.

True that.. After the Marquart, I bet Maia worked diligently on his striking defense. Anderson didn’t manage to KO Maia but maybe he was taking it easy on him. Koz has a big, predictable over-hand right -Maia’s seen that before.. I think Maia would have trouble with guy’s like Hendricks and Ellen(degeneres)berger. I hope he get’s a title shot. Nobody wants to roll with Maia..

      • Maia is incredible on the ground. I have always been a fan of his even though I didn’t like the Fitch fight. A win over Koscheck will keep him up there in the rankings for sure. I was amazed at what he did to Rick Story. And yes I agree, I do see him having trouble with Hendricks and Ellenberger…… “Ellen (degeneres) berger”?? LMAO…

Agreed, not going to be easy putting Kos on his back

Should have been Koscheck vs Condit, Matt Brown vs Demian Maia

How about Matt Brown vs Condit ?that’s sick
but Matt’s hands is full with Alves I have a
feeling if Kos lose he may get cut

      • Jokerz

Matt Brown is on a five fight winning streak, Condit is on a two fight losing streak, that’s why I don’t like the Koscheck /Maia fight in the first place. Koscheck lost like 2 in a row, Maia has won 3.

          I agree Maia doesn’t really
          gain anything fighting Koscheck

  • Nick ‘The Thooth’

The ufc is putting Maia agaisnt Koscheck because they just need a guy to choke him out in the first round so they can finally cut him!

UFC might have him move down or up in another
weight class first ,before the pink slip so if that
happens I would like to see Koscheck vs Evans
