Jake Shields UFC 144The Ultimate Fighting Championship has added two more bouts to the quickly growing UFC 161 fight card.

Jakes Shields will return to the welterweight division to take on Tyron Woodley and heavyweights Pat Barry and Shawn Jordan will faces off on the UFC 161 card scheduled for June 15 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The Canadian press first announced the additional fights. UFC officials later confirmed the bouts.

Shields (27-6-1) came to the UFC crossing over from the now defunct Strikeforce promotion in 2010.  The former Strikeforce middleweight champion returned to the welterweight division upon arrival in the UFC.  After going 2-2 in the 170-pound weight class, Shields took a fight with Ed Herman at middleweight.

He defeated Herman at UFC 160 in August 2012 by decision, but the fight result was later overturned and ruled a no contest after Shields failed a drug test.  He tested positive for an undisclosed “prohibited substance” and was suspended for six months and fined.

The fight with Woodly will be Shields’ return to the welterweight division and his first fight after serving the suspension.

Woodley (11-1) also made his way to the UFC via Strikeforce.  His only professional loss is to Nate Marquardt.  The two fought for the Strikeforce welterweight title in July 2012.  Marquardt defeated Woodley that night by knockout .  Woodley made his Octagon debut at UFC 156 against Jay Hieron on Feb. 2, knocking Hieron out in just 36 seconds.

Barry (8-5) has had mixed results during his UFC tenure.  All five of his losses have been in the UFC Octagon.  He’s gone 5-5 within the promotion and is coming off a knockout win over Shane del Rosario at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale in December.

Jordan (14-4) has gone 2-1 in the UFC since making his debut March 2012.  He’s coming off a technical knockout win over Mike Russow on Jan. 26.

Woodly is going to say night night to Sheilds…. yikes better get the stretcher ready for that white boy

    • Big fan of Twood but Shields is an accomplished wrestler as well and his submission game is top notch. He has a lot of talent but I would certainly not count out Jake Shields at all. This win will show that Woodly can even handle high level submission artist if he wins.

Woodley is a very good wrestler, but Shields is much more accomplished. Lets do this Jake!

        • I always admired Shields wrestling but after that Hendo fight I thought so much more of him. This is a nice step up for Woodley. If he takes out Shields I would love to see him go against guys like Koscheck/Ellenberger/Hendricks/Kampmann/Story. I’m not counting out Woodley but Shields submission game will make the difference in this fight.

Just saying. If you havent noticed SHeilds hasnt even gotta a chance to show any of his submission prowess against explosive fighters and if anyone is explosive its T Woods
