Round 1: Johnson takes the center of the Octagon, looking to dictate where the fight takes place. Both men, however, having a little trouble finding their range early on. Jury gets Johnson to the mat and quickly moves to mount, but Johnson quickly hip escapes. Jury is in a half mount, dropping down numerous left hands, causing Johnson to cover up. Jury mixes in some elbows, but Johnson fends off enough of them to survive. Jury is back in a half guard position, but now starts in with the right hand punching and elbowing Johnson. Johnson turns into Jury and tries to stay tight, stemming the onslaught. Jury makes a nice pass to side control and into full mount. Johnson turns to his belly and Jury drops a few more punches, searches for a rear naked choke, but can’t secure it as the horn sounds. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Jury.
Round 2: Johnson comes out gunning, but Jury doing a good job staying out of his reach. After a little dancing around, Jury lands a head kick, but Johnson shakes it off without showing much damage. Jury tries to shoot, but eats a couple punches and a leg kick for his efforts. Johnson kicks again, but Jury catches the kick and puts Johnson back on the mat. Jury goes to work from inside Johnson’s full guard, trying to start some ground and pound, but Johnson is doing a good job staying tight, controlling Jury’s wrists. Jury keeps trying to find a way through, but Johnson avoiding most of his shots to the horn. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Jury.
Round 3: Johnson comes out firing once again, but Jury gets the clinch, presses Johnson to the fence and then trips him to the canvas, Jury landing in Johnson’s half guard. Jury quickly works into side control, but Johnson manages to regain half guard. Jury is dropping down occasional elbows and keeps working to pass. Jury stands and drops a couple elbows down, but then drops back into a half mount/half guard position, punching Johnson. Johnson just can’t seem to find any way to get out of Jury’s grasp. Jury isn’t mounting massive damage, but he is relentless, controlling Johnson and mixing in punches and elbows, while also threatening with submissions.
