Originally, Teixeira was slated to face Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson on the card, but an injury to the former UFC champion left him facing fellow Brazilian Fabio Maldonado instead.
It didn’t take long for Teixeira to show his dominant style as he dropped Maldonado with a quick punch, and then moved to the ground where he immediately mounted his fellow countryman.
What proceeded to happen for the next almost 4 minutes was Teixeira beating the living hell out of Fabio Maldonado on the ground without mercy. To his credit, Maldonado refused to give up and continuously moved and shifted to escape, and with moments remaining in the round he managed to get back to his feet.
Much to Teixeira’s surprise, Maldonado still had some fight left in him and fired off a left hand that clipped him on the jaw, staggering him for a moment.
Somehow the fight made it to a second round and Teixeira unleashed the same kind of punishment all over again. Almost like he was auditioning for a role on ‘The Walking Dead’, Maldonado refused to go down despite taking more shots to the head than any zombie on the hit TV show.
When the second round ended, the cage side physician saw enough and stopped the bout despite protests from Maldonado, who somehow wanted to continue.
“This guy, he’s not human. In the locker room I told John (Hackleman) the plan the whole fight was to take him down and beat him on the ground. In the locker room, I told John I was going to knock him out, I don’t care how tough his chin is, I’m going to knock him out,” Teixeira said after the win.
“This guy got knocked down, bro, he’s not human.”
Maldonado walks away with more than a few cuts and bruises, but a ton of respect from everyone that watched his fighting spirit.
Meanwhile, Teixeira moves to 2-0 in the UFC with two very impressive performances. Now he’s targeting a former champion, and the man he was originally slated to face at UFC 153 as his next opponent as he tries to move to 3-0 inside the Octagon.
“I’d like to fight Quinton Jackson, I never talked (expletive) about him, I don’t talk about him, he was my idol, I loved that guy coming up in Pride. But he says I was talking bad about him, I’m not talking bad about him, I’m not afraid of no man,” said Teixeira.
“Step in the ring with me, I’ll fight anyone.”
