Posted on by MMAWeekly.com Staff

Urijah Faber vs Renan Barao - UFC 149With Dominick Cruz on the shelf due to injury, Urijah Faber and Renan Barao will battle for the interim UFC bantamweight title at UFC 149 in the main event.

Before the two 135lb contenders can square off in the Octagon however, they first had to hit the mark on the scales to make their five round main event bout official.

Both Faber and Barao weighed in with no problems, and now they will square off on Saturday to determine the new UFC interim bantamweight champion.

“I’m very happy to be here, I’m well prepared, you’re going to see a good show on Saturday,” said Barao, wo competes for his first major title since joining Zuffa in 2010.

As for Urijah Faber, title fights are nothing new to him and while he still has a debt to settle with old rival Dominick Cruz, he needs to capture the belt on Saturday to keep the hope alive of finishing that trilogy of fights.

“I’m ready to put on a show,” said Faber. “Barao’s tough, but he’s not tougher than I am.”
