In August of 2010, Chael Sonnen came within less than two minutes of dethroning one of the greatest fighters of all-time, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. On July 7th, at UFC 148, the self-proclaimed “Gangster from West Linn” attempts to finish what he started against Silva, the pound-for-pound king, in the most eagerly anticipated rematch in UFC history. Plus, the biggest card of 2012 is stacked with even more intriguing action, as bantamweight superstar Urijah Faber faces Brazilian powerhouse Renan Barao for the interim 135-pound title and Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin look to settle the score in the final bout of their trilogy.

  • Looking forward to watching Señor Chael make another successful defense of his middleweight title.

Uggh, Shortbus, please don’t be one of those people who buys into Sonnen’s “I’m the champion, and I’ve never been defeated,” BS.

I’m surprised I’m saying this to you because you seem very knowledgeable about MMA, but you know there’s a way of winning an MMA fight where you can choke a guy, and if he taps, that means the guy who taps lost the fight, right?

I just have to ask that to anyone, including Sonnen, who asserts that Sonnen is the champ.

KB, I think Short meant that as a joke—it cracked me up anyway–Dont think he was being literal

      • I thought my use of “Señor” and a smiley face was clue enough that my comment was intended to be light hearted.

I enjoy Chael’s antics and schtick but don’t take it seriously. It’s just entertaining, nothing more. I’m always blown away at how many people (both pro and anti Chael) take him seriously and get all worked up. Those people are even more entertaining than Mr. Chael P. Sonnen himself.

Short_Bus fot once we agree!!!! I am amazed, I couldn’t agree more. I love how people actually buy into all of his antics. I hope Chael gets the W this time. I would actually like to see Chael go for broke and finish him.

          My bad =)

LOL, no kidding. I still do not understand how many people believe Sonnen is actually serious when he says he’s the “real Champ”. The guy has fought in MMA for how many yrs? Yet people think he actually thinks he won the fight, doesnt he also state hes a “gangster from Oregon” … doi they even have “gangsters” there lol. Anyway, I agree I’ve grown to like Sonnen, b/c of how funny he is & how serious he is at “being funny”. The guy knows how to sell himself, so why not do it if it’s going to bring in loads of $$$$$. Hell Anderson isnt going to sell this fight, the guy cant even answer questions with more than 2 or 3 words. Should be a great fight!

I’m looking foward to watching Chael LOSE a second time, but this time he’ll get knocked out. Even TRT can’t save him.

Doesn’t matter if Silva or Sonnen loses, the fans are going to win that night! Looks like a good card

I agree, i think silva is going to clean sonnens clock. Sonnen isnt the champ, he was handling silva in that whole five round fight but sonnen never broke silva. A win is a win and silva won end of story. Cheal tapped, not silva. I like both these fighters a lot. i feel silva has looked more impressive in his last two fights than sonnen and fought stiffer comp in his last two fights than sonnen. But its mma, anything can happen. Fans Win!!!

Sonnen’s promotional effort is near the best of any athlete in any sport in any generation. The fact that he has maintained interest in this match on his own with Silva just ignoring him through a suspension and two other fights is big time business and their pay day is coming.

For the fight itself Silva is clearly the favorite, but I think Sonnen has a chance to get the decision win this time (maybe run away the whole 5th rd this time).
