Junior dos Santos UFC 146 weigh-insJunior dos Santos’ strategy at UFC 146 on Saturday night was to knock Frank Mir out in the second round… and he delivered.

Okay, so that wasn’t exactly the strategy; that was more the planned outcome.

But dos Santos did plan to keep his distance in round one and work Mir over from there, trying to fatigue the former champion. Then, in the second stanza, he intended to move forward more, pressuring Mir, looking for the knockout.

It turned out to be a very effective strategy for dos Santos, who may now have to rematch one of the other big men that donned the UFC 146 all-heavyweight main card in Las Vegas.

Check out what the UFC heavyweight champion had to say following his stellar effort…

Overeem is the only real threat to his title, and I doubt he will quit cheating long enough to pass a whiz quiz. Great job junior!

You don’t think Cormeir could take this guy down!?!? The best wrestler he’s fought so far is Shane Carwin a division 2 wrestler! I say that because Velasquez didn’t even get a chance or try to test his wrestling. Cormeir’s a 2x Olympian, trust me he’ll get him to the ground, and he hits hard enough to KO him or put serious damage on him once he’s there.

      Emilianegro!!!!!

Read your own post. Velasquez is a great wrestler who didn’t even have a chance (aside from one easily stuffed takedown attempt) to use his superior wrestling before getting knocked doggy style on all fours. Also, I think you under estimate jds ground game because he doesn’t ever have to use it. Cormier, while a great fighter, has even less of a chance then velasquez or mir.

      • Booker T

I think Cormier could possibly stand with Dos Santos. Cormier is like a little Mike Tyson. He’s got to get that hand healed though.

        • smill0313

If he stands wih jds, he is making the same fatal mistake as everyone else junior has ktfo.

      • RubeKegal

ehh I’m not sold on Cormier taking down JDS. Carwin was if I remember correctly a 2 time Division II NCAA champion….that’s some pretty credible wrestling credentials. Not to mention Carwin is naturally a jacked 265 and Cormier is fat at 230. Not to mention Cormier’s toughest test to date was Barnett…UFC is the official big leagues.

I’m with you on that. If the Nevada Commission had once a month urine tests a condition of Overeems reinstatement in 9 months he would be a light heavy weight again.

Did you know that 2% milk and water are the healthiest beverages you can give your toddler?

  • Booker T

Cormier will take Dos Santos out. Lets get this belt back to the good old USA!!

    • p3ezy

honestly, it is patriotic yanks such as yourself that make foreigners dislike usa.

      • p3ezy

and i know i am going to get HUGE heat for that comment

USA? This isn’t fight for your Country. You can’t admire the skills of the best unless he comes from the same Country as you do?
I will never understand how being one of 300 million people makes it about you. I just don’t get it.

    • Booker T

Just because I’d root for Cormier over Dos Santos does’t mean I don’t admire his skills. Sounds like you’re one of those anti USA liberal bastards.

      • MuayThaiFood

I think you’re missing his point. Loving the USA is patriotic. What you’re talking about is loving Daniel Cormier, which isn’t gay at all btw, and that’s your business. It’s not the same thing as loving the USA though.

        • fjc1113

Oh man super lol on the loving Cormier thing! I think he means that when the Brazilian fighters have the belt they always talk about bringing the belt back to brazil and what not. He’s just doing the same for our country

        • RubeKegal

MuayThai, when JDS said, lets bring the belt to Brazil before the Cain fight, did that make him gay?

    • MuayThaiFood

Well said, all those guys are in the same orginization, and it’s an individual sport. Look at what nationalism has done for soccer. Do we really want fans killing each other after UFC events because they are upset that their countryman lost? There are a lot of douche bags who happen to be American but that doesn’t mean I have to claim them as my own (not specifically referring to Chael Sonnen here).

      • Lesnardo

“Bring the title back to the USA” <–what a homo thing to say.

  • Booker T

You can have Brown Pride. What’s wrong with lovin the USA.

    • gnodeb

cain is an american… if you love USA, you should love brown too…

      • Booker T

USA is all colors bro. I just read about one of my favorite boxers passing away and he is brown. RIP johnny.
