Cain Velasquez UFC 146
In the co-main event, former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez looked on fire as he spoiled Antonio “Big Foot” Silva’s UFC debut with a first round TKO win.

In the first round, Silva threw a kick and immediately was put on his back by Velasquez and Velasquez threw some hard fast strikes.  From there Velasquez threw a short elbow that cut Silva open over the bridge of the nose and blood came gushing out.  Referee Josh Rosenthal then sent Silva to get his cut checked out by the doctor and he was good to go.

The action restarts and Velasquez gets back to work with punches.  Silva made a few attempts to get up but Velasquez started throwing hard punches in Silva’s guard and Silva just couldn’t continue.

Referee Josh Rosenthal stopped the contest at just 3:36 into the first round.

“It’s definitely a step in the right direction,” Velasquez said post-fight.  “Daniel Cormier, my teammate fought Silva and he told me some things I could take into my fight.”

With the win, Velasquez moves his UFC record to 8-1 and puts himself back towards another shot at the UFC heavyweight title.

    Cain looked incredible!

Let’s see Dos Santos vs Velasquez (2) now.

Hells to the yes. I cornered against Cain in debut at UFC 83 and he had a very nervous energy about him in the days before that fight and I believe he was also very on edge before the dos Santos fight. Taking a year layoff, being in the first ever fight on FOX, and a title defense against a beast like dos Santos is enough pressure to throw anyone off their game. I think that nervousness played a part in him getting caught so early on.

Cain is a smart calculating fighter when he is in groove and I think he is without a doubt the biggest threat to the Cigano Era. He has the ability to hold his own in the stand up long enough to get the clinch or takedown, and as he showed tonight, he can make it a very ugly fight in that situation.

If nervousness played a big role in his first fight then only imagine how bad it would be in a 2nd fight.

    That was brutal.

I’m sure Fedor and Vadim are thanking their lucky stars they didn’t sign with the UFC after seeing that.

Haha…agreed that Cain looked new and improved…and very impressive. But Bigfoot is hardly top teir competiton IMHO.

Good win…I like Cain but just can’t stand all that “raza” “brown pride” crap he has to bring into the picture!

little bit on the redneck side maybe..?

      • MikeMc1983

The brown pride crap is the same thing as the redneck crap. Some people dislike it all.

AS I see it…. Cains main strength is wrestling and he’s great at it, but as Mir proved tonight getting dos Santos on the mat is the problem.
    We’ll see.

I think after watching this it will be JDS’ turn to be nervous in the re-match.
