Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes
Round 1: They touch gloves and the title bout is underway. Mendes lands a leg kick, and another. Aldo lands a leg kick and Mendes shoots for a takedown. Aldo defends it. If Mendes can’t get the fight to the ground, it’s going to be a long night, or a short one. Aldo with another leg kick. Mendes lands a kick to the groin but Aldo says he’s fine to continue. Aldo lands more leg kicks. So far, that’s the tone of the fight. Mendes lands a jab and a leg kick of his own. He shoots for a takedown and again Aldo shakes it off. Mendes ties him up and secures a takedown. Aldo gets back to his feet but Mendes has his back standing. He works for a takedown and Aldo grabs the fence. The referee warns him. Aldo breaks free and lands a knee that puts Mendes down. He swoops in landing a solid right hand rendering the challenger unconscious. The fight is over. Jose Aldo retains his title.
