It’s only been a couple weeks since the company officials confirmed that UFC 142 would mark the Octagon’s return to Brazil in January, but the fight card is quickly taking shape.
The UFC announced Brazilian Erick Silva would welcome Siyar Bahadurzada at UFC 142 Monday morning, then quickly added another bout to the card. Fabio Maldonado, antoher Brazilian fighter, will face Stanislav Nedkov at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.
Maldonado (18-4) TKO’d James McSweeney in his UFC debut late last year. He returned at the The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale in June, losing a unanimous decision to Kyle Kingsbury. A former boxer with explosive power in both hands, Maldonado has the home field advantage on his side as he attempts to get back on track.
Undefeated in his professional career, Nedkov (12-0) is a Bulgarian fighter that fought the better part of his career in Japan before debuting in the Octagon at UFC 134, the promotions last trip to Brazil. Nedkov defeated Brazilian Luiz Cane in August at the same HSBC Arena, so he’ll be hoping for back-to-back success in South America.
