Round 1: Both miss with leg kicks in the opening seconds. Kim lands a quick outside leg kick, and another. Pierson clinches. He lands a couple of lefts to the body. He’s pressing Kim against the cage. Kim breaks free and lands a jab. Pierson moves in with a leg kick and eats a right hand from Kim. Kim continues to work leg kicks. Pierson moves in a lands a solid outside leg kick. Pierson blocks a left hand from Kim. Pierson catches a leg kick but Kim balances and gets free. Kim with a combination. Kim misses with a jumping front kick. Pierson catches another kick but misses with his counter punch. They clinch and Kim looks for a guillotine choke. Kim lands a judo toss. Round 2: Kim lands a leg kick and Pierson almost catches it. Kim moves in quick with a left hand. Kim misses with a high kick. He’s controling the range of the fight with his kicks. Pierson’s punches come up short. He clinches Kim against the fence but Kim quickly gets free and takes the center of the Octagon. Pierson moves forward with punches but they come up short. Kim lands a leg kick followed by a left hand. Pierson clinches but almost immediately Kim breaks free. Pierson moves in and misses with a combination and gets hit with one. He clinches Kim along the cage and works to take his back standing. Kim turns into him and separates. Kim lands the jumping front kick to the face and follows with a left hand. Pierson clinches and lands a knee to the body. They separate and Kim lands a left hand. Pierson answers with a leg kick. Pierson tries for a takedown but Kim gets away. Kim lands another front kick to the face and Pierson is in big time trouble. Kim goes for the finish and the bell sounds. Pierson wobbles back to his corner. MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Kim.
Round 3: Kim lands a leg kick to start the final round. Pierce lands a jab as Kim moves forward. Kim lands a lead left hand and clinches. Pierson turns him and presses him against the cage. Kim circles out. He goes back to working leg kicks from the outside. Kim ducks under and easily gets a double leg takedown. He passes and Pierson regains his guard. Pierson scrambles back to his feet. Kim presses him against the cage and powers him to the ground. Pierson does a good job of controling Kim’s posture. Kim stands and tries to pass. The referee stands them up with just over a minute remaining. Kim lands an inside leg kick and misses with a front kick. Pierson clinches and works knees to Kim’s legs. They’re clinched along the cage. Pierson lands two left hands to the body. Kim breaks free. The both miss with superman punches. Kim lands a kick. They both miss with punches at the bell. MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Kim.
The judges score the fight for Kim by unanimous decision. All three scorecards read 30-27.
