As its time with Spike TV is winding down, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is once again stepping over to ION Television to broadcast several preliminary bouts for UFC 140 in Toronto.

The UFC 140 Prelims on ION is a two-hour telecast that begins at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET. There are four bouts featured on the telecast that includes Igor Pokrajac vs. Krzysztof Soszynski, Jared Hamman vs. Constantinos Philippou, John Makdessi vs. Dennis Hallman, and Yves Jabouin vs. Walel Watson.

The UFC first aired preliminary bouts on the broadcast network with UFC 125. UFC president Dana White at the time explained that it was merely a matter of Spike TV declining to carry the prelims on its network for that event, and the UFC’s contract with Spike allowing them to work with a broadcast network like ION.

The UFC moves over to the Fox family of networks in January. Most of the preliminary bouts that have typically aired on Facebook, Spike TV, or ION, will move over to Fuel TV, a Fox affiliate, at that time.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones headlines UFC 140, defending his belt against former champion Lyoto Machida at the Air Canada Centre.

  • Last time they did prelims on ION the quality was substandard. Looked like something you’d find on public access at 2am on a Tuesday. It was done on short notice if I remember correctly so hopefully they’ll do a better job this time around.

Guess I shouldn’t complain since it’s free, but I’ve come to expect a certain standard when viewing Zuffa broadcasts.

  • These deals suck!!!!!!! No everyone has ION or FUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Facebook was working out just fine!!!!!!!!! Terrible!!!!
