Former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida will try to derail the Jon Jones train on Saturday night in Toronto, but the former champion and the current champ first stepped on the scale for the UFC 140 weigh-ins Friday afternoon at the Air Canada Centre.
Neither Jones nor Machida had trouble making weight. The current champion stepped on the scale at 205 pounds on the nose, while Machida tipped it at 204 pounds.
“This is an awesome opportunity against an awesome opponent. I’m just so greatful for the whole situation,” said Jones after weighing in to a surprising amount of boos. “I can’t wait to go out there and play this game that I’m so in love with.”
Machida was just as humble, saying, “This is a great opportunity for me, my second time fighting in Toronto. I hope to do a great job tomorrow.”
Former heavyweight champion Frank Mir stepped on the scale at 260 pounds to a healthy chorus of boos, while former Pride champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira weighed in at 239 pounds.
Neither former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz or his opponent, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, had trouble making weight.
Slated to fight on the televised portion of the preliminary card, Dennis Hallman, who has been fighting most recently at welterweight, had trouble making the weight for his lightweight bout with John Makdessi. Hallman tipped the scale at 185.5 pounds. He was given additional time to try and cut down to the limit of 156 pounds.
