Things get crazy between BJ Penn and Nick Diaz at UFC 137

Mutual respect or not, Nick Diaz and B.J. Penn are ready to scrap after an intense weigh-ins almost resulted in the fight happening 24 hours early.

Both Diaz and Penn hit the mark to make their main event fight at UFC 137 official, but as soon as the Hawaiian stepped off the scale he charged towards Diaz and the two fighters butted heads immediately. Diaz fired back with a push and immediately UFC president Dana White and other swarmed in to separate the two competitors.

Diaz left the stage as soon as the weigh in was over and never spoke to UFC commentator Joe Rogan, but Penn stuck around for a very few short words.

“He’s a good opponent, it’s time to fight,” said Penn.

All of the other fighters made weight without issue except for Tyson Griffin, who came in three pounds over the 146-pound limit in his featherweight bout with Bart Palaszewski. Griffin has one hour to cut the additional weight, or he will likely be fined a part of his purse for missing the mark for his bout.

That stare-down and the pushing and shoving was all scripted to sell the fight…Dana told both fighters to do something controversial, when you know they have mutual respect for each other..doesn’t matter either way, let’s see who shows up to fight!!

    • Haha I doubt it as well. Imagine training for months for one event. Remember also that BJ has talked some smack about Cesar Gracie. Things heat up easily.

I doubt it, I think it was something that BJ and Diaz decided to do on their own, Dana has stated repeatedly over and over that he does not tell his fighters what to do.

Either way, friends or not, this fight should be good and worth my money

they have too much respect for each other to not leave it all out there tomorrow night … gonna be a good one for sure… cant wait!
