The UFC on Thursday night added a heavyweight bout to the UFC 136 fight card pitting Dave Herman against Mike Russow. UFC president Dana White confirmed the bout has been verbally agreed to.
Herman (21-2) has long been one of the top heavyweight prospects outside of the Octagon, but that all changed at UFC 131 in Vancouver. Herman stepped into a fight with John Olav Einemo when Einemo’s opponent, Shane Carwin, was called into main event action.
Herman made an immediate impact, stopping Einemo via TKO in the second round. It was his third consecutive victory.
Russow (14-1) is on a 10-fight winning streak. He has won all three of his UFC fights, but it has been a slow go of it. Those three fights span two years in the Octagon. Russow most recently defeated Jon Madsen at UFC Fight Night 24 in March.
Officials have yet to release much information about UFC 136, which is slated for Oct. 8 in Houston, along with a UFC Fan Expo, but most indications are that a third bout between UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard could headline the fight card.
