UFC 135: Rampage Jackson, “I Just Want My Belt Back!”

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was the UFC light heavyweight champion. He was the guy that unified the UFC and Pride 205-pound titles. Rampage wants to get rid of the was. He doesn’t care that Jon Jones is the “future” of mixed martial arts. He doesn’t care that Jon Jones has the belt around his waist. Rampage just wants that belt back.

He’ll get his chance when the two square off at UFC 135 in Denver on Saturday.

Really, it’s not a matter that he’s fighting Jones… it’s not personal, it’s just a personal goal.

“He happens to be a real tough opponent, that’s why I’ve trained as hard as I’ve trained. I want to win this fight in devastating fashion. I want to blow him out of the water so people who doubted me will go, ‘Who the hell is that in Rampage’s body? I’ve never seen him do that.’ I don’t want to just win the fight, I want them to go, ‘Wow!'”

Check out Rampage’s one-on-one interview with Conner Cordova for MMAWeekly.com. (Warning: there is some strong language and a little bonus clip after the ending bumper… enjoy!)

(UPDATED on Sept. 18, 2011 to reflect that Jackson unified the UFC and Pride championships. He did not in fact hold the Pride title.)

Rampage was never a Pride champion!

He beat Henderson in the unification bout, so if that’s why he’s being called a pride champion, ok.

    • That’s true, he was never the outright Pride champion; he unified the UFC and Pride belts when he fought Hendo. It has been updated. Thanks for keeping us on our toes!

So if Rampage won the Pride Belt from Dan Henderson (after Pride ceased to exist)when they fought, He must have lost it to Forrest Griffin, who lost it to Rashad Evans, who lost it to Lyoto Machida, who lost it to Mauricio Shogun, who lost it to Jon Jones.

So technically speaking Jone Jones is the new pride middle weight champion?

  • Uh…. yes? LOL
