Round 1: Carwin and dos Santos both being patient to begin. Carwin shoots in for a takedown, but dos Santos stuffs it and they end up against the cage. Separated, both fighters are still being very patient, aware of the power each of them have. dos Santos holds the center of the Octagon and Carwin shoots in to take dos Santos down, but he gets right back up. Dos Santos has been using a jab to the body for the majority of the stand-up. Dos Santos attacks Carwin and he goes down. Dos Santos throws a lot of strikes, but not enough to land cleanly and the round ends with Carwin bloodied.
Round 2: Carwin’s face was bloody coming out of the first round and dos Santos looks to make it bloodier with an attempted headkick. Dos Santos still using the jab to the body in the second round. Dos Santos also using some legkicks in the second stanza. Carwin backs up dos Santos and lands a left hand that excites the crowd. Nice left highjack by dos Santos knocks Carwin back, but doesn’t drop him. The round ends with dos Santos landing some effective punches on the feet.
Round 3: The final round had dos Santos using the jab some more. Carwin shoots for the takedown and gets stuffed, but gets the trip. Dos Santos gets back to his feet and the two clinch against the fence. Dos Santos separates with a knee to Carwin’s midsection. Halfway through the final round and Carwin is lunging forward a bit more to land a heavy punch, but dos Santos is keeping good distance with the jab. More jabs from dos Santos, one followed by a hard right hand. Carwin’s face is full of blood and the referee calls time to have doctors check him out. The doctor says he’s fine and the match resumes. Dos Santos gets the takedown, to Carwin’s surprise and works in guard for a bit before getting back to the feet. At the near end of the round, dos Santos gets another takedown and the horn sounds for the end of the main event.
