The UFC, quite publicly, tried to put a fight together between Brian Stann and Wanderlei Silva. Silva didn’t want the fight. UFC brass shifted gears and instead signed Sengoku middleweight champion Jorge Santiago and offered him to Stann, who immediately accepted.
He understands that Silva is at a legendary status and didn’t want the fight, but Stann, commenting at the UFC 130 prefight press conference, said he feels he got the better end of the deal by landing in the Octagon with Santiago.
“Let’s face it, I got a tougher opponent, who is better for my career. Look who Jorge Santiago is, he’s a champion, 11-1 the last four years… I have so much more to gain from this fight than I would have fighting Wanderlei Silva.”
