The UFC has wasted no time in finalizing the main card for UFC 130 set to go down Memorial Day weekend with Frankie Edgar defending his lightweight title one more time against Gray Maynard in the main event on the card.
The UFC announced the finalized main card on Thursday.
Edgar and Maynard will square off in the third fight between the two lightweights, after a draw left no winner in their last bout on New Year’s Day at UFC 125. The two rivals hope to settle the score once and for all when they meet on May 28.
A light heavyweight title between former champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and American Top Team heavy hitter Thiago Silva is sure to bring fireworks to the UFC 130 card. Both are coming off wins with Jackson defeating former champion Lyoto Machida, while Silva spanked, both literally and figuratively, Brandon Vera in his last fight.
A new addition to the card that had not been previously confirmed is a middleweight bout between former Marine officer Brian Stann and Pride legend Wanderlei Silva. Stann called for a fight with Silva after his knockout win over Chris Leben, and now he got his wish.
Silva has been out of action since Feb 2010 dealing with injuries, but he’ll look to build on his last win over Michael Bisping when he returns in May.
Also confirmed for the card is a heavyweight showdown between two Las Vegas natives as Frank Mir meets “Ultimate Fighter” season 10 winner Roy Nelson.
Mir and Nelson have actually met before, but that was in a grappling competition a few years ago. Now they meet in the UFC on May 28 as a part of UFC 130.
As previously announced by MMAWeekly.com, the final fight confirmed for the main card for the Memorial Day weekend card pits Thiago Alves against Rick Story in a welterweight contest. Alves is coming off a huge win over John Howard at UFC 124, while Story dismantled Johny Hendricks en route to his fifth win in a row overall.
Tickets will go on sale soon for the May 28 event, which takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
