Round 1: Left hook by Poirier opens the round and we are underway. A flurry as both fighters exchange, and Poirier gets the best of it. Grispi briefly tries to pull guard but Poirier remains standing and Josh lets go. Both fighters clinch against the cage looking to land. Poirier with the Thai clinch landing knees to the body and he begins to turn it up. They separate and Poirier is unleashing a multitude of strikes to Grispi’s face. A solid 1/2 combo by Grispi briefly backs Poirier up but only for a second as he continues stalking seconds later. Poirier drops Grispi with a leg kick but they get back o the feet. Now Poirier is just going to own on Grispi as he covers against the cage trying to stifle the onslaught. Grispi shoots out of desparaion but it is easily stuffed by Poirier and both fighters go to the ground. Poirier now in Grispi’s half-guard as Grispi is trying for an uneventful Kimura. Grispi tries switching to a straight armbar but still nothing, and the round ends. 10-9 Poirier
Round 2:Grispi opens round 2 looking for a takedown but Poirier easily stuffs it. With Grispi covering up against the cage Poirier unleashes another brutal onslaught of combos and once again Grispi looks in trouble. Somehow Grispi manages a takedown in all of the madness and now has Poirier in a possible triangle/arm bar position. Poirier defends beautifully and stands back up. A lunging right hook by Poirier connects and backs Grispi into the cage once again and he is now working the Thai clinch with thudding knees to Grispi’s face. Grispi drops levels out of desperation and the action slows. Poirier is now in Grispi’s guard and is landing elbows and hammerfist’s to score effectively. Grispi throws up a triangle but Poirier picks him up, slams him, and throws a lunging right hook in for good measure. Now back on the feet, Poirier is once again landing knees to Grispi’s face from the clinch and the round ends. 10-9 Poirier
Round 3:Round three opens as both fighters clinch, once again. More knees from Poirier and Grispi is really slowing down. Grispi eventually breaks away but eats a straight left trying to back up, and once again drops levels to try and survive. This is not a good showing by Grispi as he is getting handled in every aspect of this fight. More brutal knees from Poirier, and even more knees. Grispi is getting beat up. Poirier gets a little too over zealous and Grispi manages a weak takedown. Poirier is keeping Grispi close and controlling his head very nicely, not allowing him to do anything what-so-ever. An elbow from a postured position is the first significant strike Grispi has landed from the guard. Grispi now transfers to side control but Poirier has him back in guard before too long. The round ends, 10-9 Poirier.
