The weigh-ins for UFC 117 took place on Friday afternoon in Oakland with the championship bout between UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva and top contender Chael Sonnen becoming official with both making weight without any problem.

Sonnen, who has been the most vocal of possibly any fighter in UFC history leading into the bout, didn’t let the crowd in attendance down as he let out one more verbal taunt towards his opponent.

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the pre-funk of Anderson Silva’s retirement party, hosted by yours truly tomorrow night,” Sonnen shouted to the Oakland crowd.

While yesterday’s stare down at the pre-fight press conference was searing with emotion, today Anderson Silva didn’t even acknowledge Sonnen’s presence and he never locked eyes with the challenger, and just kept a sly grin on his face at all times. He also seem to admit some past shortcomings in his fights, and vowed to make a change.

“Everybody makes mistakes, I’m always constantly trying to improve,” said Silva. “We’ll see what I can do tomorrow night.”

The only fighter who didn’t make weight on Friday was American Top Team welterweight Thiago Alves, who has struggled making the 170lb limit before, even with the one pound allowance since the fight was a non-title affair. Alves came in at 171 and ½ pounds, and will have time to cut the additional weight for the commission.

UPDATE:
According to the UFC, Alves was still unable to cut the additional 1/2 pound and will forfeit 20% of his purse for failure to make weight.

All other fighters made weight without any issue.
