The Ultimate Fighting Championship continues its global expansion this week, ending up in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, this week. UFC 112 features two title fights and an unlikely debut as the promotion lands in its first outdoor arena, an arena built in just three weeks, specifically for this event.
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva attempts to defend his belt from Demian Maia in the main event and B.J. Penn will do the same with his lightweight title against Frankie Edgar in the co-main event. But they share the spotlight with a fight that has driven much of the attention at UFC 112. Renzo Gracie, at 43 years young, makes his Octagon debut against Matt Hughes, one of the promotion’s most decorated former champions.
The fighters stepped on the scale on Friday, making Saturday’s bouts official, with all of the competitors making weight with no issues. The title fight competitors had to weigh in on fight weight, with no one pound allowance like a standard fight.
