Tyrone-SpongAccomplished kickboxer Tyrone Spong made his mixed martial arts debut at World Series of Fighting 1 on Nov. 3, 2012, winning by first-round knockout over Travis Bartlett.  He is expected to return to MMA at World Series of Fighting 3 in June.

World Series of Fighting 2 takes place this weekend in Atlantic City, N.J. Spong would have been on the card, but had already scheduled a kickboxing bout with kickboxing legend Remy Bonjasky at Glory 5: London on the same night as WSoF 2.

“He is going to fight in the June event,” said WSOF president Ray Sefo.  “As a matter of fact, I spoke to him about a month ago in Vegas and he was really hoping that he was fighting on this card, but unfortunately there were already plans for him to fight in the Glory event, so we look to have him back in June.”

Spong is on a four-fight win streak in kickboxing and is coming off a knockout win over another legend, Peter Aerts.

Spong trains out of the Blackzillians camp in Boca Rotan, Florida, alongside Rashad Evans, Alistair Overeem, Vitor Belfort, and Anthony Johnson among a growing list of others.

Along with his kickboxing and mixed martial arts careers, Spong plans to make his professional boxing debut soon.

“As a matter of fact, I’m working on it right now.  I’m training with one of the best boxing coaches in the world, Pedro Diaz,” said Spong in a recent interview with MMAWeekly.com. “We’ll see what happens.  I’m blessed with the talent and gifted with it, so why not?”

I can’t wait to see this guy get some big fights in mma. I know he wants to box and all but hardcore combat sport fans want this guy to stay busy in mma and get the exposure he deserves. His fight with Overreem was an incredible kickboxing match and with him training with the Blackzians his wrestling game is certainly not weak.
