An initial autopsy report from Charleston County Coroner in South Carolina has found no cause of death yet in the passing of 30-year old amateur mixed martial arts fighter Tyrone Mims.

According to a report from The Post and Courier, coroner Rae Wooten is quoted as saying there was ‘no obvious, glaring cause of death’ after an initial examination.

The coroner’s office will be conducting further testing including tissue, blood work and cell examination, but those results will not come back for several weeks.

“I just don’t have a definitive answer at this time,” Wooten said. “Unfortunately, it’s going to remain a very sad mystery at this point.”

Mims was involved in a bout at ‘Fight Night at the Point 6′ in Mount Pleasant, SC where he lost a fight in the second round against opponent Blake Poore. According to observers, Mims was doing fine in the fight until the second round when he got stuck on the bottom of his opponent, and offered little resistance until the fight was eventually stopped.

Onlookers stated that Mims was just exhausted after the fight ended, and the referee in the bout was quoted as saying he wasn’t taking serious damage, he just appeared very tired and unable to improve his position so the bout was stopped.

Mims was able to make it back to his locker room but lost consciousness a few minutes later, and just over an hour after that he was pronounced dead at Medical University Hospital.

The Post and Courier also reported that Mims ingested the painkiller Percocet according to a report form the Mount Pleasant Police Department, but until further testing is done it’s unknown if the drug played a part in the medical issues the fighter suffered later that night.

I hope they can get some answers soon for his family, friends and also the mma community. It states he ingested percocet, but who witnessed this? And are they liable? Not to play the blame game but it will just be nice to get answers for everyone. R.I.P.

From what I have gathered, it doesnt sound like it was anything directly related to the bout, but whats going on SC? 2 deaths in 3 years?
