Tyron Woodley handed Kelvin Gastelum his first career loss in the UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz co-main event on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Having built a reputation for knocking opponents out, Woodley was heavily scrutinized following the fight for it going the distance. He didn’t make any excuses after the fight, but on Tuesday revealed what one major hinderance to scoring a knockout was: he had a broken foot.

The No. 3 ranked welterweight revealed that he suffered a broken foot in the opening round of the fight. Woodley posted a photo of an x-ray to his instagram account that showed several breaks.

The 32-year-old continued fighting for two more rounds with the injured foot, earning a split decision win.

It was unclear at the time of publication how long Woodley expects to be sidelined from the injury.

    That explains a lot.

  • bob

Dear god.. That looks painful, half his foot was detached.

Broken foot in 4 places O.o Gastellum couldn’t beat Woodley if he fought on one foot, and an entire division below him.

    Good job?

    • Guest

Yeah that’s why he’s beat guys like Uriah Hall, Rick Story and Jake Ellenberger. It was obvious his weight cut issue was bothering him during the fight and he was thinking about that than winning the actual fight.

      • Wolf Ticket

Exactly, say what you want about the fight, but Gastelum was just a few foot stomps away from the victory 🙂

      • XLR8

He lost against Hall but got a bogus split decision victory.

How could one NOT be a fan of Woodley??? That’s some TOUGH STUFF!!!

    • Guest

he’s very limited in fighting skills. all ko power but no bjj or any ground game as a matter of fact.

      • Gary Fredericks

You are saying that a former University of Missouri NCAA Division 1 All American wrestler has no ground game Sarge??? BAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAAA! Maybe his Jitsu needs polishing but Jits is only part of the ground game, not the ONLY part to the ground game. Here’s some more info on his ground game for you.

Give the guy big credit for fighting with a broken foot. Didnt even look like it was broke.

  • SamBruin7 .

OMG WTF?!! I doubt he broke it like that in the first round. No way someone can keep on fighting like he did with his foot like that. Most likely he had a stress fracture and then because he was continuing to use that foot, it broke more severely and in more places. I’d be concerned that there might be soft tissue damage to the ligaments and tendons which could mean permanent damage and weakness. No way he’s coming back soon from that injury and most likely won’t be the same. Not to mention, arthritis when he gets older. That fool is gonna be walking with a cane when he’s like 50 years old. LOL

Woodley is a good guy was offered 30% of kelvin’s purse and he declined.
