Miocic took just 35 seconds to put Maldonado away, domining the Brazilian fighter and winning the bout by technical knockout.
“He’s got the heart of a lion,” Miocic said, following the first-round victory. “I needed to get my shots in, and I got an open break and threw a good punch. It may never happen again, but tonight was my night.”
Miocic dropped his opponent early on in the contest, landing a left hand that sent Maldonado falling to the Octagon floor. The Brazilian recovered and returned to his feet, but found himself back against the cage.
With a right hand, Miocic hit Maldonado, dropping him again, this time finishing the fight with hammer fists.
With the win in Brazil, Miocic improved his record to 12-1 and extended his win streak to three.
