The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale took place at a much quieter MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday night than did UFC 189 on Saturday night. Although the crowd was smaller, several fighters still delivered the goods, with main eventer Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson leading the charge for the four Performance of the Night bonus winners.
Thompson landed not one, but two spinning hook kicks to the head of Jake Ellenberger in Sunday’s headliner, knocking out the No. 9 ranked welterweight in the UFC and taking home a $50,000 bonus check.
In the finals of The Ultimate Fighter 21, Blackzilians fighter Kamaru Usman overcame a tough Hayder Hassan from American Top Team, submitting him with an arm-trianlge choke early in round two to claim top honors for his team.
Masvidal scored a TKO stoppage of Cezar “Mutante” Ferreira late in the first round, while Samman quickly locked on a rear-naked choke to submit Caio Magalhaes.
There was no Fight of the Night awarded.
